India, Pakistan troops exchange fire, infiltration bid foiled

Indian troops exchanged heavy gunfire with Pakistani forces overnight on Saturday and foiled an infiltration bid by militants trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries, officials said.

The Border Security Force (BSF) retaliated to the gunfire from Pakistani rangers at Ballad post in Samba sector, about 45 km southwest of Jammu at 11 pm on Friday.

"It was an infiltration bid by militants from across the LoC. The gunfire lasted for about 90 minutes. The BSF succeeded in foiling the infiltration attempt," a BSF official said.

Searches have been launched in the area to find out if there were any footprints of infiltrators on this side of the border.

A fortnight ago, two militants intruded from across the international border. They crossed over from Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, adjoining Punjab. The two were later killed in a gunfight with the Punjab police in a village in Gurdaspur

Indians have a nice excuse, fire and then claim we stopped infiltration.

In worst cases they kill local Kashmiris and show them as infiltrators.

It is a shame to see senior members arguing based on speculation and random generalization. It is also appalling to see people supporting terrorism and thinking about it as a means to move forward. A country like Pakistan is engulfed in a do or die battle against the ideology of extremism and yet we find support for terrorism.

There is a saying in Sanskrit: "Vinashakale vipareta buddi" that roughly translates to: In the time of death/crisis a person uses his brain in all the wrong ways.

Good luck !

yes, we should have thought through instead of amassing troops. That is what happens when civilians are in control of the defense of the country. Strategy and politics don't go together. We however learnt from our mistakes.

 Pakistan has no such issue. The real power as we all know rests with the army. It is shameful for a country to take its General to discuss and have a dialog with the US on bilateral issues and cooperation. :D At least the world knows what an eye wash your civilian leadership is! Who are the pussies now?
