DAMN RIGHT India is still building them! WITH MANY MORE TO COME! I believe 19 ARE planned to be built by 2017, including the largest in the world.

What happened at Fukushima was tragic but a culmination of unique circumstances. Every single Nuclear power plant in India is more technologically advanced with more safety and back up systems than the Fukushima plant. Because of VERY strict rules by the Indian atomic agency all nuclear power plants are made with more back-up systems than the industry norm (including present at Fukushima) so a repeat of what happened at Fukushima- all back up generators failing leading to the stopping of water pumps is almost impossible in any Indian nuclear power plant. Additionally according to rules from the India atomic agency all nuclear power plants must also have passive cooling systems free from all electrical input, so if power did go down the reactor could still be cooled. All the measures would prevent an Indian Fukushima-FACT. Not to mention post Fukushima, MMS ordered a review of all nuclear power plants regarding a similar incident in India and all power plants were found to have easily passed the tests because they are all state of the art and more technologically advanced than Fukushima.

with a rapidly growing economy creating ever greater demand for energy what does the world want India to do? It is already the third biggest pollutor. But good news is India is also has the second fastest growing renwable energy sector on the planet and the GoI is investing heavily in this direction.

as far as Pakistan is concerned, we will continue to pursue a peaceful agenda --our nuclear assets are for defensive purposes only. Our civilian program is not huge, but perhaps at some point with cooperation from our trusted partners we can expand on our nuclear energy production as it is more than within our right to do so --regardless of the views or whining of some arrogant holier-than-thou nations

there is nothing in their power that they can do to stop us

they have good idea about what it is (of course you can think otherwise) but when it comes to their livelihood and home guess what they want!!!

Government spending thousands of crores for nuke plant can't spend couple of hundreds of crore to provide alternate employment and livelihood for those people!!!!!

These people if they really knew what it was, they would protest BEFORE crores have been spent and plant is ready. It is because they are egged on by politically motivated environmentalists and rights groups funded by West and other lobbies that these farmers come out after the money has been spent.

Otherwise they'd protest when work just starts.

The truth is, they don't know jack until they are brainwashed to protest being a flawed democracy that we are. Whether you accept it or not this is the reality.

I thought they shelved it due to environmental & security concerns.

Did not know about that. Anyway its a great concept when bringing electricity to isolated places connected by water. Also marine nuclear reactors are some of the most tested and developed ones, also small in size.Used earlier for propelling ships and subs could provide electricity to Islands and pockets of population far from major developed areas.

i have heard that china, USA , UK , Russia , India are jointly building a power generation plant underground

there they will try to mimic the process which takes at core of sun

i also heard that if they succeed we don't have to worry about supply of energy for next 1,000 years
