What's new

India,Pakistan only two countries starting construction of Nuclear plants

BEST TO WORST
1. Wind power
2. concentrated solar power (CSP)
3. geothermal power
4. tidal power
5. solar photovoltaics(PV)
6. wave power
7. hydroelectric power
8. a tie between nuclearpower and coal with carbon capture and sequestration (CCS)

"Wind power is the most promising alternative source of energy, according to Mark Jacobson"

but India needs power on huge scale

India's power generation capacity is 1,20,000 megawatts but India faces shortage of 55,000 megawatts

.
Yup is is the best way to chop birds too

haa haa........what u said that wind mills r choping birds..........wind mills are not powered by any electricity.....they OWN produce electricity............
RPM of wind mills depend on speed of surruonding Air.............so plz relax......BIRDS R SMARTER THAN YOU

Wind turbines kill 30 000 birds every year

And you really think wind power is a serious alternative to fossil fuels ? Wind speed that fluctuates so much ?

Time for you to get your head out of the nest

that is why govt is still constructing n-plants............but we should also give focus to another alternate source of energy(EXCEPT NUCLEAR) for our FUTURE NEEDS

MORE NO. OF N-PLANTS WOULD BE A EASY TARGET FOR TERRORIST GROUPS..................WE SHOULD ALSO THINK ABOUT IT FOR SAFETY OF OUR PEOPLE

What is the alternate?

Noboby likes fossil fuel powered power stations bcs of pollution and also we are running out of fossil fuels

Nobody like big dams bcs of environmental problems.

Non conventional forms of energy like Wind or Solar is not in a position to produce the vast amounts of energy that big countries like India requires.

So until someone comes up with some other forms source of energy that will produce huge amounts of power with very less environmental impact (he will surely get a Nobel for that), Nuclear is the way to go.

Hydrogen is the fuel of the future(besides its virtually abundant) from fuel cells to fusion reactors & even internal combustion engines can be powered by it. Fuel cell driven cars are already available & IIRC it has also been tested with internal combustion engines, can't say whether the latter is commercially available or not, so IND should research tech in this area as it can eventually be a viable crude oil alternative !

.
The article talks about construction of new plants that began in 2011.
The writer is trying to misguide people.
If you check out on Wikipedia China is going to build a lot of reactors, followed by South Korea and India.
Russia is going to build a few "Floating Reactors" [great concept].
Even US is thinking of building new reactors and is currently increasing the capacity of old ones.
I think the writer should go through the 2010 Davos summit Energy Security talks and debates.

Lets hope so...but I will believe when I see it...as a energy source which is practical and economical.

I thought they shelved it due to environmental & security concerns.

For a country like Pakistan which is deficient in fossil fuels and it's largest exports constitute furnace oil to power our power stations. Nuclear Energy is the only viable option. Green energy takes a lot of investment and has limited returns. It is dependant on environmental factors and also requires a lot of useless space. Pakistan certainly has potential for Solar Power with many locations seeing up to 350 sunny days a year however, the limited production capacity, high maintenance cost and line loss are major turn offs.

What about Thar Coal (I think the 3rd largest) & Baluchisthan Gas.

What about Thar Coal (I think the 3rd largest) & Baluchisthan Gas.

1) Thar Coal is Lignite with high moisture and sulphur content, it's not very good power generation materials.

2) Sui Gas has been exploited to levels where it has proved insufficient to meet our needs. Pakistan is the largest CNG converted country, were the cleanest fuel burning nation but as a consequence we now face a shortage of gas for Industrial use and it's taking a toll on our economy. If we provide for the industries then the domestic consumer suffers. If we provide for him then the transport sector suffers. We are stuck in a violent irreversible cycle of energy shortage.

By future I meant that it can replace crude oil almost completely(not coal though) except for some of the more important hydrocarbon derivatives btw H2 fuel cells are active the world over & there are working prototypes of internal combustion engines powered by the same however I'm not sure about their commercial success as such.

If I am not wrong some of your scientists were experimenting with 'Coal Gasification Plants'. Was it successful?

There is always Iran
