But why, they already have capacity more than their needs and the problem is money for buying it. Are they getting free??????

500 MW would make a difference while Pakistan sorts out its own energy problem which will take 3 years. Buying electricity from India isnt permanent. Its temporary while our economy can stand back on its own feet again. Also, if India approves, it will also be a goodwill gesture towards pakistan.

But they have installed capacity connected to national grid, only need is to pay some money to power producers and get it. the same money they need to give it to India or who so ever they get it from

Pakistan is actually thinking about importing 2000MW of electricity from India. I hope India agrees to sell electricity to pak. If the deal goes down, it'll change the whole game in pakistani politics. Nawaz Sharif will become a man who has resolved one of the worst energy crisis in the history of pakistan. Ghareeb admi doesnt care where electricity comes from. All he wants is a peaceful sleep after working 12 hours a day.

500 MW is nothing if you consider India's installed capacity. Only Wind power probably near 20k MW. The problem in India is poor transmission and wastage (it is said around 40-45%) during transmission and theft. The Centre need to be serious to improve transmission system through national grid while the Sate government should act tough against power theft.
