'India not safe for Pakistanis' and the IPL controversy

It is really funny how everyone here is quick to criticize IPL management and team franchisees on this entire issue.

Has anyone tried to view the matter from the perspective of the IPL teams?

Shilpa Shetty, one of the investors in Rajasthan Royals, gave an excellent explanation. With Shiv Sena and others making open threats against the involvement of Pakistani players in IPL, the team franchisees took the best decision in their interests. How can these teams ensure the safety of the Pakistani players in India?

The only problem here was that the IPL management should have discussed the matter with the franchisees before requesting the visas of Pakistani players. Anyways, it seems that the decision by the franchisees was made just before the auction since Shiv Sena made those threats only two days before the auction was held.

To end, I think Pakistanis themselves don't realize the level of anguish some Indians have against anything related to Pakistan. The Shiv Sena threats could not have been taken lightly and the IPL took a wise decision. Unfortunately, the media in both countries is inflating the issue to get more and more viewers hooked on.

Think with an open mind once rather than stupidly believing anything which the media has to say.

If two days before the auction security had become such a concern over terrorists threats from Hindu extremist groups in India, then the IPL teams and management should have contacted the players that THEY actively pursued and shortlisted for the auction to let them know what was going on, especially since it is obvious that the decision to not select the Pakistani players was arrived at by the IPL through consensus as a league.

This isn't that complicated.

In fact even today CricInfo is quoting IPL managers as providing yet another explanation that 'it was the needs of the teams', when till yesterday it was 'concerns over availability and security'. When the IPL cannot even get its own stories straight, it is obvious that this was a poorly managed tamasha for whatever reason.

Whatever decision the franchisees took in the auction is not a concern for the IPL management. The management's responsibility is to organize the auction and make the players available for auction.

Regarding the IPL management and franchisees not communicating their concerns directly to the Pakistani players, yes, that was a mistake. The franchisees should have let the management know about their secret inside deal and the Pakistani players should have been informed before. But the franchisees didn't realize that the issue will blow so much out of proportion otherwise they would have let the Pakistani players know about it.

It is just a case of lack of communication between the franchisees and the management and the Pakistanis being overly sensitive.

Its not question of owning a league...its demoralizing and humiliating sportsman....don't want...don't invite...but invite and humiliate is unacceptable...

Not every player who is invited is selected to play.
You need to understand the process, in IPL players are sold. IPL gets player for this process of getting auctioned, it is upto the buyers to buy them. Now when IPL got these players they did not knew if buyers will not buy them, they even worked to get their visa stamped.

The buyers are putting their money and for some reason they did not want to put their money on Pakistani players.

How hard is it to understand?

As hard as the IPL is making it since they cannot get their stories straight.

Till yesterday it was all about 'security and availability concerns', since that excuse was shot down, today they changed the story to be 'needs of the teams'.

Again, if the terrorist threat from extremist Hindu groups in India was such an issue two days before the auction, the IPL mgmt and teams should have contacted the Pakistani players to let them know about the issues being faced, especially since the IPL is the one that pursued them and shortlisted them for the auction.

Common decency and professionalism would have it that the IPL let the players know of the changed security circumstances.

Pakistanis are not being overly sensitive, the IPL has acted extremely poorly and unprofessionally and deserves all of the criticize coming its way. They can't even get their stories straight in the aftermath.

Therefore, the issue of Pakistani players not being talented enough does not rise. The franchisees never said. So stop twisting statements made by some to serve your own bias.

Perhaps you should go sit down with the owners and come up with a consistent lie first to explain the complete lack of professionalism and decency and then try to save face.
