Hi i am starting this thread because it was missing in indian navy section.
We can discuss about the possibilities Indian navy can choose among the contenders and armaments along with hoe many and which aircrafts are suitable for this behemoth 40,000 LHD programme.
Indian navy operates 7 LCU handed over to IN by indian shipyards among 12 ordered but they can hardly be used in indian coast.
This programmes provides Indian navy to become a potent force and also a step in Indian navy blue water ambitions.
India's Ministry of Defence finalised a project for the procurement of fourLanding Helicopter Docks (also referred to as "Multi-Role Support Vessel") in order to upgrade the Indian Navy's disaster response, amphibious warfare and island protection capabilities.[6] The project is worth ₹16,000 crore (160 Billion Indian rupees (INR) - US$ 2.6 billion), and tenders were issued in December 2013 to three domestic shipyards.[7][8]
History
As a precautionary measure against People's Republic of China's naval presence in the Indian ocean, acquiring amphibious warfare ships and aircraft carriers has become a top priority for Indian Navy. Consequently, Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) is being developed into a major Amphibious Warfare Hub for Indian Navy and it is considered crucial to counter China's strategic moves in the Indian Ocean as well as ensure security of these sea lanes.
In 2011, it was reported that India is looking for up to four LHD type aviation and amphibious ships, with designs to come from foreign firms. In November 2013, the Defence Ministry has issued a tender for building warships which can carry helicopters. The tender was issued as part of efforts by the government to build the capabilities of the indigenous industry.
Criteria for selection
Although moderately flexible, the basic criteria are:[2][3][9][7]
Contenders
- Size: Should be no more than 215 metres long; and draught at full load must not exceed 8 metres.
- Aviation facilities: Aviation deck to carry 10 heavy helicopters, up to 35 tons.
- Troop space: Accommodate 1,430 personnel, including 60 officers, 470 sailors and 900 troops.
- Load carrying capability: Combination of landing craft, including landing craft mechanised to ferry tanks; landing craft, vehicle, personnel to transport troops; and the fast-moving landing craft air cushion vessels. Should carry six main battle tanks, 20 infantry combat vehicles and 40 heavy trucks.
- On-board weapons: Point-defence missile system, close-in weapon system, an anti-torpedo decoy system, a chaff system, and heavy and light machine guns.
- Range and endurance: Endurance of 45 days, with a maximum sustained speed of not less than 20 knots.
- Propulsion: Powered by electric propulsion systems.
- Special Features: Specialised areas from hospital facilities to naval command centre.
- Role: Conducting maritime surveillance, special operations, search and rescue, medical support and humanitarian aid.

Mistral LHD (DCNS, France)
DCNS/Armaris's contender is a modified version of the Mistral Class ship.[2][10]The ships in this class are generally able to carry around 900 armed troops and 16 heavy or 35 light helicopters. These ships are also about to be exported to India’s ally and weapons supplier,Russia. Should India be willing to use Russian weapons on these ships, it may allow for common modifications. France’s DCNS is currently India’s shipbuilding partner for its newScorpene Class diesel electric fastattack submarines. The Mistral meets every criteria for the MRSV project.[2][9]
Multi-functional Ship LHD (Fincantieri, Italy)

The Indian Navy recently received the first Deepak class fleet tanker by Italy’sFincantieri which is currently working with India to build the Vikrant class aircraft carrier.[11] Although Fincantieri has a history of naval industrial relations with India, it is yet to fully develop a ship that fits the criteria for Multi-Role Support Vessel. However, according to their website, Fincantieri is fully capable of manufacturing a vessel which they list as a 20,000 tonne "Multi-functional ship". This ship is purported to be suitable for the "MRSV" title.[5]
Juan Carlos I Class (Navantia, Spain)

Navantia built the Juan Carlos I LHD for the Spanish Navy, and is building two similar ships for the Australian Navy. It is also a strong contender for the title of "Multi-Role Support Vessel" as it meets each criterion perfectly. With its ski jump for STOVL operations, it is conceptually similar to a Wasp ClassLHD. Nonetheless, if India would be willing to compromise with a smaller vessel or LPD, then this would expand Navantia's scope by including theGalicia Class LPD, which was co-developed with Royal Schelde.
Construction
The Indian Navy issued a ₹16,000 crore(16 Billion INR - US$ 2.6 billion) domestic tender to three domestic shipyards - Larsen & Toubro (L&T) which has tied up with Navantia of Spain,Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering which has partnered with France’s DCNS, and ABG Shipyard which has partnered with USA's Alion. Lol then they should revoke that clause, but then why did they made that as a criteria for selection.There's no 40k ton program for LHD/LPD... they'll will be the size between 21-27 ton... bid mostly goes to the Juan class.
none of the ship offered are 40000 tonne they are all just over half of that. looking at the size of this tender. i would think they would buy ship that suits there needs and ensure they get tot so they can modify it make it even larger.you can ask mods to shift in indian navy section

Looking at fincanteneri design it looks it is around 20,000t.

i think italy will get it, as they helped india with their indigenous aircraft carrier. so they may also help with this too. besides india and italy have good relations, they build your tankers didn't they.

Yes but there are speculations that American companies are also interested in the deal and have tied up with indian shipyards.Why Should they revoke...?? As of now Except the American's no one is Building 40k ton LHD/LPD...and the original RFI itself says the ship should be no longer than 215 meter long, Juan class is the only contender in this deal has a bigger LHD with around 26-27 ton, with 230 meters. rest of them are below 23 ton. The reason i said is because its bigger and has STOVL.. the other contender Mistral's Propulsion( azimuth thrusters) doesn't fulfill the needs of IN, though they modified it to meet IN's requirements with Juan having STOVL and Bigger size (size not a matter since the Mistral which was build for Russia was 26 ton) Juan Carlor has a upper hand

Yes because all the main contenders tied up with shipyards and reliance woke up late.Guesses.. i don't think so they'll come by... so far as for as i know only the three DCNS, fincantieri and Navantia are the front runners..and they're the ones replied back as per the RFI, the Korean LHD is not even going to be, Relience is trying to pitch them in.

Yes they helped in in IAC-1 but still it doesn't make sense to choose their design on that part because others are offering good design.
