Silchar, Dec 24: “Friendly ties between India and Myanmar have entered a new high with the arrival of the Myanmar Army contingent at the elite Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare (CIJW) School in Variegate, Mizoram, for four week long training starting from November 25 which concluded on December 24,” said Maj Gen MS Ghura, VSM, Commandant CIJW School. The Myanmar contingent consisted of 35 personnel, including five officers. During their stay, the Myanmar Army contingent was given extensive and tailor - made training on various counter insurgency aspects with special emphasis on insurgency in northeast India and Myanmar.
Experiences of Myanmar Army on combating insurgency was also discussed and best practices of both armies were shared. During this period, there was also an exchange of delegations consisting of three officers from India and four officers from Myanmar visiting each other’s country. The delegation from Myanmar visited the CIJW School from December 12 to 16, while from Indian side, the visit started from December 10 to end on December 14. The visit of the delegates and contingent were mutually beneficial and facilitated the two Armies of operating together to counter terrorism and insurgency. The Myanmar contingent left for their country on December 24. This information was shared through an e-mail to The Sentinel by Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence).
