India must stand by Sheikh Hasina

This has reference to the editorial, “Begum Zia plots return” (April 20).

I agree with your view that, if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party comes to power, the Islamists may overrun Bangladesh. The newly-formed 18-party alliance led by the main opposition party, Begum Khaleda Zia’s BNP is nothing but an unholy gathering of anti-democracy, anti-India and anti-secular forces.

The credentials of the constituents of this alliance, such as those of the anti-India Jamaat-e-Islami, speak volumes. Such outfits have prospered by stoking anti-India sentiments in a section of the Bangladeshi people since the partition of India in 1947.

These forces aim to destroy the secular fabric of their country by radicalising Bangladeshi Muslims. Before 1971, they had helped the Pakistani Army in crushing Bangladeshi nationalists and the minority Hindus. Now, they are being helped by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence in hatching conspiracies against India and Sheikh Hasina’s Government in Bangladesh.

Islamabad does not want a peaceful and liberal Bangladesh in the neighbourhood. So, these extremist forces are trying to bring chaos and instability in that country. In such a situation, India has a greater responsibility to secure both its own interests and secularism and democracy in Bangladesh.

New Delhi should do everything possible to strengthen Sheikh Hasina’s position. Of course, we cannot interfere in Bangladesh’s affairs, but we can help her win the coming election by supporting her in the good work that she has been doing.

If Ms Hasina loses, the nexus of China and Pakistan, apart from anti-India Islamist groups and Indian secessionist groups, will pose a huge danger to India’s security.

. . . .
We should provide her moral support coz she is friend of India. But that's it. We don't have any intention to intervene in any country's internal matter. We burnt our fingers in Shrilanka and our politicos won't repeat the same mistake.

As far as military or any other sort of intervention is concerned then its a total no go from our side but when it comes to counter insurgency or anti terrorist activities IND maybe interested for its own sake !

.
India must support her at any cost...we must take care of our friends....and India will

.
If she comes with peoples support then why not ? If not then khalida will do fine ..

.
We can support her morally...
However, people have to decide the PM, and the author is asking for no interference from indian side in BD...
I personally support Hasina though, under her, economy as well as their military is well equipped :)

Of course India would support RAWamy League, why is this a surprise? RAWamy League is India's creation to control Bangladesh by proxy. We need to start our second and real war of independence and this time the people of Bangladesh should recruit any forces and power within and outside the country to cutoff India's evil and dirty hand in our country and defeat RAWamy League at the ballot box. But I hope they do it defensively without getting into cycles of political violence and killings which has been the past practices in many countries in the region. Violence always begets violence, the only time it can be justified is to save lives.

Awami League in power with bangs of Indian cash

Awami League came to power with help of (among other things) bags of indian cash and advice.
Here is Economist article on Awami League, helped by bags of Indian cash and advice

Indian plan for Awami League escape

And now according to India Today, Indian govt had planned for military operation inside Bangladesh to rescue Awami League regime and its top leaders in case Awami League and India claimed coup were attempted. Here is India Today article on Indian plan of military operation in Bangladesh

"In late December last year, a secret letter went from New Delhi to Dhaka. It was delivered directly to Sheikh Hasina, 65, the prime minister of Bangladesh. It warned her that Islamist radicals embedded within the Bangladesh Army were planning a coup. Hasina had reason to fear coups. On the night of August 15, 1975, her father, Bangladesh’s first president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, her mother and three brothers were massacred by officers of the Bangladesh Army. Hasina and her sister would have been dead as well, but were abroad on a tour of Europe.

Along with the letter, India had worked out a contingency plan to evacuate the prime minister, her cabinet and key figures of her Awami League party in the event of a coup. There was a military plan as well. Indian helicopter gunships would be launched from two airbases in West Bengal and Tripura into Dhaka to provide air cover for the operation. Landing zones and evacuation sites were identified in and around the capital for the air corridor."

Summary

Awami League regime came to power with bags of Indian cash (among other things) and now banking on Indian military operation inside Bangladesh and helicopter rescue. That would be famous caption and cartoon for that matter – Coming with Indian cash and escaping in Indian helicopter.

And no worries for mid and low level Awami League leaders (except those already living and writing abroad) even though they were not mentioned in Indian plan, Indian border will be open for their shelter. Mid and low level Awami leaders will need to consult Indian high commission, Joynal Hazari and Shamim Osman for escape route!

My question is how can our whole educated middle class, the civil society, the journalist-media be so clue less? I guess the biggest amount of money is spent on the media to create an alternate reality. If the zionist neocons can control a country the size of the United States, I guess controlling a country like Bangladesh using media propaganda is kids play. We need to recruit alternate powers to play and balance against Indian influence, there is no other way to counter this menace.

Exactly, too much hindi movie and indian culture. That needs to go away and we need to project our culture and heritage.

If BNP acts like BAL in controlling Indian terrorist groups in BD, India doesn't have to choose one party over another. We are doing what is good for our security. As simple as that!
