Bleak living conditions in Afghanistan's Baghrami market

The blocks of cold cement that make up Baghrami market in east Kabul have become an accidental place of refuge for hundreds of families who had to leave their homes in Kapisa province to flee from fighting there. These families arrived in Kabul a few months ago, but are just the latest from many thousands of people who have arrived in the last few years due to the widespread conflict in Afghanistan. Many of them have settled into makeshift dwellings all over the city and are living in bleak conditions.

Besides their clear needs for food, clean water, and medical care, the people huddled in Baghrami market also need help facing the cold Afghan winter. MSF has distributed relief items, consisting of 3,500 blankets and 700 plastic sheeting. In addition, MSF will work together with SHRDO, a local Afghan NGO specialized in health care to provide medical care for the thousands gathered in Baghrami market.

In the upcoming eight weeks, MSF will support one SHRDO clinic by providing the necessary training, supplies and staff that are needed to boost the provision of free primary health care and medication for those displaced in the market. Pregnant women and those who need emergency medical attention will be referred to Ahmad Shah Baba District hospital, only 5km away, where MSF has been supporting the provision of free medical care activities, with a focus on emergency and maternity care, since October, 2009.

Please give them dignified life.

Seriously india should focus on its own backyard, Bhutan and Nepal. India is no where near Afghanistan, it shares no border with Afghanistan and indians think Afghanistan is next door to delhi

There is n't much focus. Just a few projects. doesnt matter if the workers come back sooner or later.

I personally wish that all forces withdraw from Afghanistan and let people do what they were doing before. Taliban or whatever.. kill or be killed. Its time that the world leave mess to messy people.

India pledged 1.5 billion for afghan development. I think it is huge amount. For the same amount pakistan leader took bowl to IMF and world bank.

.
As far as refugee situation is concerned it is Pakistan's responsibility to shelter them not India. Last time when they were refugee Pakistan was blessed by riches from USA without loosing men. Pakistan was beneficiary to keep them but what Pakistan should have done to send them back was non of its concern. The money was used to keep them refugee but not to send them back by helping the neighbor to stand back as a nation (what India is doing now). But were used by exploiting their vulnerabilities for strategic depths.
History repeats itself.
This time they are (afghans) again refugee and now Pakistani men are at war to help USA. Pakistan is still getting money but this time is not beneficiary. Equation is not that simple this time.
Rather using Refugees as money cheques this time Pakistan is investing in Afghanistan to improve its PR due to Indian presence. But ultimately Afghanistan will be gain stability!, this is what we all want isn't it.
We are learning lessons by hard way. Pakistan was ill prepared and would have never thought the earth will change its axis this time.

Pakistan reviews its projects in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: A high level delegation led by Planning Commission (PC) Member Lt General Muhammad Zubair concluded a three-day visit to Afghanistan to review progress on reconstruction projects being undertaken in the country by Pakistan.

Pakistan is undertaking several development projects in Afghanistan under bilateral assistance programme. The focus of projects is on the sector of health and education. Pakistan has also allocated 1,000 scholarships for Afghan students in their institutions.

During site visits, the delegation assessed the work progress and examined in detail factors impeding the progress and took decisions on key issues to expedite the work. Zubair also called on Afghan ministers of higher education, health and public works to discuss a coordinated approach for completing the reconstruction projects.

The delegation will pay a separate visit to eastern Afghanistan, later this month, to assess the work on development projects Pakistan is undertaking. Pakistan is also in the process of identifying areas where more development projects could be initiated. The current development and assistance projects undertaken by Pakistan would cost around $500 million.

Indians are devaloping schools, roads even the parliament in Afgan..Pakistan only invested this much money in Afghan only because they dont want to loose the influence on Afhans to the Indians..I am not taking away anything from Pakistan but can you point out any devalopmental projects by Pakistan at this rate when taliban was in power??,..they were your allies ...

And as for the report we dont even know if this news is just another Indian media masala..They were only talking about the sources ..dont even know government even thinking about it..as of now not a single Indian officials talking about withdrawing fron Afghanistan..so for now just stop dreaming..it may be one of the option other may be sending more troops to protect the Indians installations..

with you post i am getting an image that in Pakistan Afghan refugees are in worse condition. in Pakistan they are treated like pay cheques. So with this i guess Afghanistan is better for them. Why dont they go back to afghanistan. With india there helping them with the whole world. They'll surely get better condition than this. As we are same much affected by terrorism and taliban taking over our nukes .

now Did we seal the border.?? Are we not allowing them to go back. The borders are open brother. If they want to go they are free to go. Our own refugees of Bajor and Swat faced the same situation. Did we made some 2000 sq foot banglows for refugees of Swat and bajor and keeping Afghans in tents. our own refugees also lived in the same tents. The fact is Pakistan is now kind of tourist spot for most of the afghans. In Winter they'll come to Pakistan. In Summer they'll go to afghanistan. Why dont they go there and stay there as Pakistan is like hell for them with these conditions. They come back because they like it here.

you are talking far away from realities.
