New Delhi: India is likely to emerge as the second most competitive economy in the world after China in terms of manufacturing in the next five years, says a report.

According to the 2013 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index compiled by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and the US Council on Competitiveness, five years from now, emerging economies would surge to occupy the top three spots.

China would retain the top spot, while, India and Brazil moving up to claim second and third rankings respectively, the report said.

"India's focused and comprehensive national manufacturing strategy, democratic governance and infrastructure development over the next five years may unlock the potential for CEOs around the world to see this rising star," the report said.

The five developed economy nations that were ranked in the top 10 today include -- Germany (2nd), the US (3rd), South Korea (fifth), Canada (seventh) and Japan (tenth), while five emerging economy nations were also ranked in the top 10 today: China (first), India (fourth), Taiwan (sixth), Brazil (eighth), and Singapore (ninth).

Meanwhile, in the next five years developed economy nations are likely to slip lower in the executive rankings with Germany moving from second to fourth, the US from third to fifth, South Korea from fifth to sixth, Canada from seventh to eighth and Japan falls out of the top 10 moving from tenth to twelfth.

Brazil’s jump from eighth to third is the largest jump expected over the next five years. And, Vietnam moves into the top 10 as the tenth most competitive nation.

According to the report talent-driven innovation is deemed the most critical driver of a nation’s competitiveness, while, second most important driver position is the economic, trade, financial and tax system of a nation.

This study, gathers data from more than 550 CEOs and senior manufacturing leaders and rank the 38 countries in terms of their manufacturing competitiveness at present and in the next five years.

Anything may happen.... What's happened to the Russians ?? Brits well we no longer manufacture anything....

.
The kejriwal/medha patkar types of NGO mafia and environment and forest ministry are a big road block to achieve it.

.
I dont see this happening with UPA rule continuing. UPA's populist and watered down Land acquisition bill is highly in favor of land owners. This will make acquiring lands for manufacturing facilities even more difficult.

.
The best news for me in pdf . Lets hope that we make more manufacturing units throughout the country .

Indian achievement is synonymous with delayed 'almost"

Don't blame Forest Ministry. You don't know how tough there job is. They get more threats than most of the other govt. services employees.

.
Very likely, with the coming up of dedicated freight corridor and new Manufacturing policy, electronics policy and telecommunication policy. Its good all these policies are being notified soon.

Keep your insecurity apart for a while and comprehend this report from Deloitte:

"Over the next five years, 20th-century manufacturing stalwarts like the United States, Germany and Japan will be challenged to maintain their competitive edge to emerging nations such as China, India and Brazil, according to the 2013 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index report from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited’s (DTTL) Global Manufacturing Industry group and the U.S. Council on Competitiveness"

India is the country of tomorrow for the foreseeable future. Also, manufacturing competitiveness is a subjective measurement. When it comes to volume or value in manufacturing, something that can be measured, the prediction that India is #2 a little further out, like the day after tomorrow.

Yes, guys at Deloitte are highly favored to India over US, Germany

Brazil is also jumping from 8th to 3rd position. Do you have any 'expert' comments on that ?? How long will you remain in insecurity and jealousy ??
