India "may" buy more SU-30 Mki's instead of Rafale

How many threads are on this?

In either case, the issue here is NOT the level of sophistication of the fighters but the greater reliability and lower operating costs of the Rafale. Can India afford to have 300+ MKI with all their associated lifecycle costs?

The fact is that a delegation from france is coming soon to discuss.. if the talks are successful and if india makes budgetary allocation, rafale deal would be through. At that point details about the price angle would come up publically and CLEARLY. If the talks fail, then there is no L2 and whats the best course of action is already debated in many threads. (Rafale sticky thread).

Its all in "IF"

Lets wait for that delegation visit, we will soon know about fate of rafale deal. Till then its gonna be lots of kite flying from all other parties (read ruskies, Saab, Eurofighter, and expect Obama to pitch F18 Advanced Super Hornet also.. hahahaha).

I am happy that all parties have got gud manja (thread used in kiteflying with fine powder of glass) out in this kite flying competition... keep it up as uttran is very near..:)

Amazing level of blackmailing. So the French should sell the fighters for the price quoted two years earlier. Even a small time merchant wont sell you goods on a two years old price and here we are talking about state-of-art fighter jet system.

Not just that. Dassault should take full responsibility & ownership of all problems due to low standard work of HAL.

India really lives in a fantasy world in which ancient Indians created planes!!

We are the buyer, we set the rules. And yes, we do pay from our own poor pockets. If Dassault or any other entity has any problems with any part of the RFP, they are well within their rights to withdraw from the deal, provided it's not been signed.

As far as I can tell, We aren't holding a 88 mm PAK 43 over their heads and demanding their unquestioned obedience.

It's our money, our rules or as you say, "Our Fantasy". They have a problem, well, they can walk out.

First, French cannot alter the terms of the bid that they agreed to previously.

Second, price escalation from the quoted price should happen as per the exchange rates and inflation index, govt. need to look into the finer details to judge if the increased price is fair or valid.

@Abingdonboy any idea why the price has increased so much in last 2-3 years?

Cost escalation could be because of ancillary work required to meet India's demands like more avionics, infrastructure to assemble jets in India and some transfer of technology.

They have a superior product. Its not just you. You are buying because you cant make. Dont apply super market or consumerism rules here. :)

Err....we will apply whatever rules we want. They have the right to say no. No one is forcing them to sell their "superior" product to us, it has to be mutually acceptable.

They are not the only ones willing to sell. Saab and the russians are desperate to bag the deal, if not Rafael then the contract can be given to any other interested company.

Correct me if i am wrong.. Isnt Su more of a air superiority specialised in dog fight scenario.. rather than Rafael which has much better A2G role. India already has 200+ mki on her kitty.. why go for more Su ??

Even if it is more built for Air Dominance role but still it can carry all kind of stuff including Brahmos missiles which make it very potent platform and still even if IAF goes for more MKIs intead of Rafale they will maintain edge over PAF in terms of quality and quantity as PAF only has handful of F-16 when compared with MKIs and still MKI has some edge over F-16s.

It will be wise decision of IAF if they procure more MKIs as it may force Russia to not offer jets to Pakistan and also allow speedy development of LCA which can perform well with MKIs so no need of Rafale as FGFA is not very far away and till then Super Sukhoi will maintain IAF edge over PAF, until PAF got some money from somewhere and go for shopping spree which is not going to happen in near future.

.
its good for IAF , finally they are on one side , French really making Indians angry , Indians have $$$ why should they be tolerating such behavior from French ? that is un acceptable , buy more mki' or maybe su-35;s

Thank you..

they agreed when they entered in this race..this was the clause of the RFP for all the time..its not India who lives in a fantasy world, its m0r0ns like you are..

by the way,if not rafale, then why SU-30??its should be Eurofighter, right??

by the way..

Eurofighter Typhoon completes first live firings of Meteor missile - Airforce Technology

I wonder if their A2G capability increased within these 2 years...
