What's new

India looks to woo adamant China for entry into NSG: Will the new tactics work?

India has already started reactor construction in a Big way- In addition to already under construction half a dozen reactors and planned half a dozen- 10 more PHWRs in 700MW capacity each has been announced-

The market in India is huge- and most Global giants are making losses an American company is going to be Bankrupt- So It is natural that rising reactor construction in India will make It a key supplier of parts- India is already supplying for Russian companies-

So NSG by including India keeps its relevance in Nuclear trade and technology proliferation- If India is kept out of there any more a parallel Nuclear trade will make the institution insignificant- India is needed by NSG more than NSG needs India- The waiver by NSG already allows India to trade with NSG members-

You need to read what IMF says about various measures of size of economy. Nominal is the most misleading one as it does not even corrects for inflation -- meaning inflation also shows up as growth in Nominal. There are more than two measures of GDP btw.

Another fun-fact. Russian economy as measured by nominal GDP has shrunk by 40-50% or so. Guess what would have happened to their electricity consumption or production or economic power?

Lol I study economics and I know there are various ways of measuring the size of an economy. And the most commonly metric is Nominal GDP.

Fun fact, Russia's economic influence indeed shrunk along with her nominal GDP.

Oh yeah! And how do you account for inflation in Nominal GDP then?

Which influence?
Military? I doubt!
Geo-political? I doubt again!
Political? They still hold UNSC veto, NSG membership and what not.
Economic? They are still a massive producer of gas and have EU caught by throat.

It increases.
Kindly elaborate! How do you calculate growth in economy in presence of inflation. Which measure will show it? More importantly how do you compare two economies while one is having inflation causing a increase in Nominal value of GDP.

China should take all advantages of her woo.. Play smart

Russia is only strong militarily. The world can afford to sanction Russia and it has negligible effect on the world economy growth. No country goes into a recession just because the Rubles fluctuates or Russia raises interest rates.

It has effects on world economic growth- For example Germany which could by cheap gas from Russia now has to pay very high price to USA for gas- Spain whose farmers were exporters to Russia also suffered- Not buying oil from Russia has helped European and American oil companies-

China is highly dependent on Russian oil- If there is a complete sanction, China will have to buy oil from western/American oil companies and Gulf at High price and Its huge investments in Russian oil and gas fields will be wasted and companies will go under recession- So yes sanctions on Russia If implemented fully will have huge effect on world economy-

Lol no. Europe has the option to import energy from other sources albeit at a higher price. Meanwhile Russia is depending on other countries such as China to buy their resources.

If you want to measure real economic growth, you get the nominal GDP first and adjust it for inflation. Eg; Lower the growth if it's inflation

EU is dependent on Russian gas and oil- many EU countries who are not super rich like Germany are already feeling the heat of sanctions- China is dependent on Russian oil and gas- India and China are dependent on Russian Military supplies-

Russia has for the first time become a Major player in Middle east- It has successfully finished American influences in Central Asia- you can thank China for that also-

It is already planning to enter Afghanistan once again-

Yeah that is if something as drastic as full sanctions happens. Meanwhile just the US adjusting for interest rates can cause a recession or massive capital outflow in other countries. That's what I call economic influence.

President Bush by providing a waiver to New Delhi in 2008 by NSG also provided the the transfer of American Nuclear technology to China . American nuclear manufacturing Company like Westinghouse are now controlled by Japanese. In reality Tokyo transferred the technology to manufacture Nuclear reactors. THIS WAS A TRADE OFF. The Chinese got the technology and the Indians did not get any- the Japanese put a lot of conditions on India- India had to negotiate with Japan- only this year -the Japanese of Parliament passed a bill allowing access to nuclear technology from Jaoan.
THE PERIOD 2008 to 2017 are wasted years to India. Indian moronic leader Manmohan Singh did not provide the necessary funds to increase the indigineous nuclear reactor capacity from 700MW to 1000MW as Manmohon Singh was of the idea India will get the technology to manufacture larger nuclear reactors. The Chinese benefited tremendously in keeping with US commitment to China for clean energy drive. WHAT AN IRONY- CHINA HAS EXPORTED TO INDIA nuclear equipment and materials to the value US $10 Billion. Why would China lose an important Nuclear reactor market by ALLOWING INDIA INTO NSG. India nuclear industry is well advanced-only competitor to China as it can provide Nuclear reactors at lower cost.

As far as I know, loss of profit is a loss. I doubt EU will be too happy to promote policies that bring trouble to Russia and hence to themselves.

Well, that is why Real GDP in constant US dollars seems to be a better tool for comparing economies. It excludes the growth due to mere inflation.

Here is China vs India.

PPP makes more sense for estimating the non traded part of the economy.
