For this humungous amount of expenditure, shouldn't the government instead develop infrastructure, promote growth, jobs, health, and increase the literacy rate? As the saying goes:

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.

But then, that wouldn't fill the Congress' vote bank, would it? At least that's what the Cong thinks! Screw you, screw me, screw the country! It all boils down to: KISSA KURSI KA! Amen

Look like MMS has abdicated his duty for fiscal discipline and rein in govt.expenditure. It would have been better spent on infrastructure projects, which will generate jobs and create positive growth prospects.

we were always a mixed economy...in fact socialist mindset before 1991 was predominant...These schemes are just eye wash...the expenditure will be there but the end user won't benefit from it...these scum holes will keep looting the money at the expense of Middle class...i have no objections in helping the poor but how much help that programs like NREGA have done(end users vs scum bags) is all there to see...bastards!!

I am voting them out for sure..hopefully majority does the same and we can get rid of these blood suckers..

A decent quality meal i.e three times a day costs 125 Rs i.e 2$ a day. (In cities)
might cost less than 1 $ in country side.

the good quality rice starts from 24rs a kg in urban areas ibelieve not sure

I wish this could work. however, when I saw "government""welfare""scheme", I am not very optimistic about the result. government needs to be a part of the system to ensure food safety for a large poor population such as India, but you also need private players to keep the bureaucratic in line.
