$1.3 billion! thats way too much to spend only on census ... i mean these funds can be better utilized for rural development
No matter how much we spend, this is a good step...

And Look, spending money on such things will be not considered as waste of money (atleast I think so) since, Money spent on such an event is not going to go out of the country unlike that of our defense expense.

Why is it an either-or? For a $1 Trillion economy, we aren't really that up to date in terms of information on our citizens. Think of the advantages it will have when linked to the UIN and when traceability and accountability is established - petty crimes would reduce, people will gain civic sense, fraud, bribery etc would reduce, corruption would be reduced, all government programs can be budgeted in a better way, and most importantly, track and help those most in need of government programs.
