The Indian Air Force has floated a brand new requirement to support the acquisition of nine special mission aircraft for airborne Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Communications Jamming (COMJAM), ground survey and target towing.

According to the request for information sent out to global vendors, two of the nine aircraft should be certified to perform the SIGINT role, since the mission systems required for the SIGINT role commonly demand permanent changes and adaptations to the airframe.

The remaining seven aircraft should be configured by the prime contractor and certified for the multi-mission role, supporting aerial survey, target towing, COMJAM and flaring. These missions will be flown in addition to their original role in carrying passenger and cargo roles.

Nonetheless, all nine aircraft will share the same platform complying with FAA/JAAR or equivalent standards, to save in operations, training, logistics spares and support. India is likely to consider the Gulfstream GV platform proposed by IAI/Elta Systems, special mission systems based on platforms offered by Gulfstream (GV) and Bombardier (a special-mission derivative of the Dash-8 Q400 was displayed at Aero India expo in Bangalore in 2011.) Other companies likely to be considered are Northrop grumman, Boeing, Raytheon and L-3. Among the European participants BAE Systems, Thales and Saab also offer suitable systems and platform and are likely to bid. For platforms, some of the bidders are likely to consider the Embraer EBR-145, which has already been selected for the DRDO lightweight AEW program. The Indian Air Force already operates five EMB-135BJ Legacy business jets. For the SIGINT mission the IAF operates two Learjet 29A and three Gulfstream III SRA platforms.

Embraer EMB-145I uses the Emb-145 business jet platformmodified to the specifications set by the Indian AEW requirements.

Indian Airforce is in serious buying spree... Good time Hillery Clinton is in India... Good for US. If US govt. give a push, its very difficult for us european to win Tender.
European products are more sophisticated and technically advance then American plus we are more trustworthy strategic partner then US.

Can't deny that mate....:agree:

I doubt a US company would win this tender.

These aircrafts will most probably require India to sign CISMOA etc. if we were to buy them from the US.

India is not willing to sign these agreements.

Only option left is European or Russian.

YES - To the bold and underlined part.. :D

We were also involved in indian helicopter engine research for Dhruv Series and consulting for LCA...

But i don't think there's any European SIGINT system that can win this competition, only US and Israel are the contenders.

We were also involved.....................
Didn't understood, but no i am not an aeronautical engineer. I am research associate.
What i was trying to say, engine used in Dhruv series helicopter was jointly developed with European and Indian consortium. And as of my knowledge we are also involved in LCA engine design and development (Russia is only involved in testing).

Now the point, as we are involved in so many projects with India plus ease with Tech transfer.

Europe as whole (except UK) should be considered strategic partner to India in-same line with Russia and Israel.

Actualy we thought "we"(we were involved) means "You" but it should be your country. And also it is due to cultural difference I am from Lucknow capital of an Indian State Uttar Pradesh which is famous of its Nawabs (Islamic rulers) in old days.Lucknow is very famous for soft spoken persons and here "we" is treated as singular not plural as in English, it also shows your strength.I am a banker posted 900 km away from Lucknow at northern part of country i.e.city Amritsar.I am banker and in various official communication I used we instead of I, which reached many time explanation. so sorry for this "we'' in we were involved........
