What makes India look bad ? The answer is Indian themselves make India look bad. Did Pakistan use a gun pointed at India's head and force her to spend so much that she in return earned the title "World's largest Arms importer" ? Did Pakistan force India to adopt the Caste System ? Did Pakistan force India to be the world's most corrupted country ? Did Pakistan forced Indian parents to favour baby boys over baby girls ? etc etc....

Only you guys could make spending 1.9% of GDP on defence (actually far less than much of the world and FAR less than the 3% that is mandatory of all NATO members) as the worst thing ever. Conversely Pakistan spends in excess of 3% of GDP on defence so if Pakistan had an economy the size of India's you'd be by far the largest arms importer on earth. As such this India spending is only a sign of its new found wealth China would do the same if it wasn't in self-inflicted isolation due to their tendency to rip-off any tech that comes their way.

You have to THANKs India for CONSTANTLY THREATENING Pakistan and that cause Pakistan to beef up her defense spending to counter the Indian threat !!!

India amazes the world when her per capita income is ONLY $1,527 but yet is the world's largest Arms importer.

Pakistan amazes the universe with per capita income lower than India and spending more of its GDP percentage on arms than India!

1) Yes, we have paid for everything we have purchased, ever. According to recent reports, we have paid a lot more than nexessary (ask tatra).
Just because pakistan can't afford to pay anybody and have to depend on the goodwill and charity of americans and chinese (guess how you get anything from china? Soft loans at best. Guess how you get F-16s and P-3s from USA? Subsidies by the "evil" american taxpayers.), doesn't mean that India can't pay.

2) Name one. If you are going to say mrca, no it is still going on, and world class manufacturing plants are being built in bangalor as we speak.

There is only one country in this neihborhood that can't pay for what it gets. People living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at people living in fibre reinforced concrete houses. New saying I came up with, after seeing pakistanis do exactly that, accusing India of shameful things done only by pakistan.

Each of that is bigger than his country can dream of. But why do you have to mention deals that India has paid for, let him mention deals that India hasn't paid for, since he is making that accusation and he carries the burden of proof.

We have paid for everything that we have purchased. China was the largest importer unbtil 2006, and is still one of the largest in the world, and would be the largest, except for the fact that nobody sells to them anymore.

Pak has an economy of 200 billion and is the THIRD biggest importer, and they have the audacity/stupidity to ask why India with a 1.3 trillion economy and growing (3 trillion plus by measures that matter) should be the biggest. Hence my quote about glass/concrete houses earlier.

1. Control the PSUs which prop themselves up by fleecing IA (eg: BEML TATRA)

2. Allow Indian private players to the defense sector. I am sure that if DEFEXPO 2012 is anything to go by , many of our pressing needs especially the artillery can be solved very quickly if private players are allowed to come in.

A total of 258 private firms along 20 DRDO laboratories are involved in K 4 project

L&T is involved in ATV

private sector of India will play bigger role in Indian defense sector in future
