PressTV - India to invest in Iran green energy sector: SUNA
The head of the Iranian Renewable Energy
Organization (SUNA) says Iran and India
have finalized an agreement under which
New Delhi will invest in the construction of
wind and solar power plants in the Islamic
Republic.
According to the agreement, the Indian side
will transfer technical know-how and will
invest in the design, construction,
installation and launch of power plants,
Yousef Armodeli said.
Using the potential of Irans private sector in
the production of renewable energies is one
of the governments macro policies, Armodeli
further said.
So far Iran has inked contracts with the
private sector to construct power plants
capable of generating 12,000 megawatts of
renewable energies, he added.
The Iranian official further said that the
production capacity of renewable energies in
the country will double by the end of the
Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan
(2010-2015).
According to the SUNA chief, Iran currently
produces over 300 million kilowatt hours of
renewable electricity.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has made great
strides in generating renewable energy,
mainly wind power.
Last year, the Iranian Energy Minister Majid
Namjou said Iran plans to generate more
than 5,000 megawatts of electricity from
renewable energy sources by 2015.
