Bullet train will fare quiet good. India is like Europe. Bullet train will make fare cheaper, at the cost of slightly lengthy time. There are so many people in India, and poor people, so it's wise to have a system especially when it can be profitable. Bullet trains are very good replacement for air travel, if money is an issue.Bullet train is a BS concept when it comes to India. We don't have that kind of money and neither can IR sustain the debt of constructing such projects.
Chinese are doing it to fuel their growth they have the cushioning of Murican dolla...while we got nothing.CR a.k.a China Railway Corp has a debt of 3.1 trillion yuan.

It'd create high paying jobs. Also the cost is initial. A single plane costs 100m and carries 200 people. Train can carry far more and ticket cost be less.Actually it is the opposite. Bullet trains will be more expensive because to develop their initial infrastructure, it would cost a bomb.
No one here would be able to pay Rs.5,000+ on a trip by default. Maybe short business sectors like Delhi-Jaipur but no way across India.
In China, the bullet trains serve a different purpose as their people are much more prosperous and can afford. Here even a Rs. 10 hike in normal rail fares leads to violent protests. I am of the opinion that it should be crushed and development should continue but here it is a mob rule. CCP doesn't need to worry about votes. Here it can be a big problem.
Definately not across India. They'll likely connect delhi first, or premium paying customers. India is bigger than Europe so obviously India won't be able to afford. But setting up key cities will do a great job.
Yes, bullet train is like having nukes. They can vastly increase trade.Definitely. At least , if they do decide to build these, Indians of higher economic status will have the option of taking the rail system. I do seriously hope that the Indian government follows through.
Why can't we develop our own? And if we decide to do so how many years will it take? Any idea?
not easy as it seems
We need a booming economy that can sustain an average 7% growth rate to implement such projects on wide scale
Improve economy first, these things can come later
Because they have decades of experience are among the leading nations to possess one ?
So, why don't we shut down our Space Program and avail the services of NASA/ESA instead? They're far more experienced and their list of accomplishments in space is much bigger than ISRO's. Don't fool around with the question.

Nonsense, I am not talking about shutting down industries, but about cooperation and learning new about new technologies which are already available and management and production related know how (something in which we suck incredibly hard.)
You got no clue about the cost of developing HSR infrastructure.Which private firm is going to pour $10Billion+ dollars in 1 or 2 yrs to get nominal returnsIndian Railway need not finance Bullet trains and even if they do decide on Bullet trains, they would need to create infrastructure from scratch as current infrastructure could not support trains running at 200+ Kmph speed. They could be developed Privately on the lines of Delhi Metro. And Since they would be competing with Airlines rather than Railways, they could be run on for profit basis.

For China the bill was $24 million per km and India doesn't have that Industrial might to lower the bill.India's steel and cement production is not even enough to fuel a housing boom leave alone an infrastructure boom
But why do we need to have HSR ? just because China has it!It'd create high paying jobs. Also the cost is initial. A single plane costs 100m and carries 200 people. Train can carry far more and ticket cost be less.
Yes at first, the project will cost arm and leg, which is because later on, things get cheaper.
The poor can keep riding slow trains but middle or lower middle can take bullet train. Beside, poor people don't travel to different states often and work nearby.
