Sri Lanka didn't have a religious war. It was an ethnic war. And do you really complain about any form of persecution of Muslims? When Bamian Buddhas were blown up, did anything happen to one Muslim living in a Buddhist-majority country? In Sri Lanka alone 2000 years old hisotircal sites were vandalised by Muslims and that was the start of anti-Muslim sentiments within the society. Then compare that with the reaction towards Charlie Hebdo, Satanic Verses, Danish Cartoons.

So if Muslims act stupid, Buddhists should follow them? Agreed Muslims are not exactly the standard bearers of tolerance but this thread is about Buddhists not Muslims. As for did anything happen to Muslims living in a Buddhist country, the Rohingyas have been persecuted since the independence of Burma long before Bamiyan. They are not even considered citizens.

Agree one two wrongs does not make one right.. About the Rohingya's.. Overall it has to do with ethnicity and conflicts of legality.. Very little to do with them being Muslims, till recently.. Out of nearly 2.2 Million Muslims in Myanmar Rohingya's constitute somewhere around 800,000.. Myanmar does not recognize them as natives but illegal Bengali immigrants.. Rest of nearly 1 million Muslims in the country does not face such issues.. Although violence is condemnable there are many underlying issues regarding the Rohinya's.. So it's a ethnopolitical issue than a religious one

Well recently they passed some marriage laws where a Buddhist man can marry a Muslim woman but a Muslim man cannot marry a Buddhist woman even if she converts to Islam and ceases being Buddhist. So it is not just about ethnicity although you are right to say that remains the main issue in Burma. That being said the Rohingya would perhaps be more openly accepted if they were "Bengali" Buddhists instead of Muslims and I don't think you can disagree with that.

Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on Tuesday said although he did not support nuclear weapons but certain nations could keep them for the safety for all.
Dalai Lama was in Ghaziabad as the chief guest in a school function.
When asked about the civil nuclear cooperation between India and the United States, which has been revived by U.S. President Barack Obama during his recent visit to the country, the Dalai Lama said that he considered India as a huge and populous nation and hence it had a right to keep nuclear weaponry.
"I am totally against nuclear weapons. However, on this planet [if] some bigger nations have certain rights to keep nuclear weapons, then India [is] also one important nation," he said.
Meanwhile, Dalai Lama added that India was a great country because of its cultural diversity and the young generation was the future and hope of the nation.
During his speech, Dalai Lama urged the students to spread the message of peace and prosperity through their actions.
In a glow of bonhomie, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Obama had earlier this week unveiled plans to unlock billions of dollars in nuclear trade and to deepen defence ties to establish an enduring strategic partnership. (ANI)

India important nation, can keep nuke weapon: Dalai Lama - India Gazette

Why is this Buddhist man even talking about nuclear weapons? Stick to religious talks, dude. Don't get involved in political discussions.

Lol he could have just avoided or say he is not qualify to make remarks about such delicate matters, instead of making an even bigger joke of himself. Lool not like he isn't already. Once a revered religious leader start getting into politics, he losses any little credibility he once had, doesn't matter whether he is Muslim, Buddhist, Hindus , Christian or whatever, don't give a shit, stick with your religion and avoid dirty politics by all means, well that's if he is a GENUINE religious leader. He has made similar political remarks in the past, which he shouldn't have. You can have your own personal opinion as a 'holy' religious , but don't start publicising them, . if you want to do so, then just be a politician and join politics altogether. :enjoy:

I agree with you here, Mike.

I think thats natural given the vast majority in that country are Buddhist.. But that is hypothetical is'nt it.. Because for one other than the Rohingya's other Burmese Muslims have not faced major problems

Two there is a significant number of Bangladeshi Buddhists, Some have also faced violence in Bangladesh and fled to Myanmar, But Myanmar have not welcomed them with open arms either.. There is a question of sovereignty here as well.. irrespective of the religious background

It's not about China and I am trying to be unbiased. Think about it in this way. What's the meaning of being a monk? Distancing one self from all materialist matters which includes not indulging in politics and authority. That makes Dalai Lama looks like a hypocrite.

Monks are sometimes asked to come back to with hold the Principles of Dharma against EVIL!
We have a specific verse for it.

Translation!
Shloka Yada Yadahi Dharmasya

"Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya

Glanirva Bhavathi Bharatha,

Abhyuthanam Adharmaysya

Tadatmanam Srijami Aham'.

Bhagavad Gita (Chapter IV-7)

"Whenever there is decay

of righteousness O! Bharatha

And a rise of unrighteousness

then I manifest Myself!"

Praritranaya Sadhunam

Vinashaya Cha Dushkritam

Dharamasansthapnaya

Sambhavami Yuge-Yuge."

Bhagavat Gita (Chapter IV-8)

"For the protection of the good,

for the destruction of the wicked and

for the establishment of righteousness,

I am born in every age."

He is only returning the favor
You would have done the same thing if u were in his position

Anyways what he said has got no values

Tell, me seriously, Did Buddhist Monks who spread to Asia tried non Materialistic approach?
Or are you taking the meaning of monk to be too literal as "Slap one cheek, and he will show you another cheek?"
Whatever he does, he does as a Leader of his people.Like i said before.
You are Politically Correct because China invested in your Nation,So next time Democracy will be as per their wishes,Don't wait long! ;)

Why not Pakistan? The answer is simple.

Pakistan is not a rational actor. It is not a responsible power, it looks to Saudi for guidance on religious, political and cultural affairs. It is willing to destroy its own country and region for religious subservience to the Arabs, It indulges in acts like these:

A Tale of Nuclear Proliferation - How Pakistani Built His Network - NYTimes.com
Disarmament Diplomacy: Dr. Khan's Nuclear WalMart

Pakistan has not been a positive force for the World, zero contribution in any positive sphere, disproportionately high contribution in negative spheres. And any problem that you point out to Pakistan is conveniently blamed on 'west'.
