2011 article, where are we on the 2014 delivery schedule of the super su's? were the 50 su's shipped back to Russia as the article says?

What Sukhoi OKB has done is offer to the IAF two prospective upgrade paths: one which is the Super Su-30MKI upgrade and which the IAF has accepted. The other one concerns the photo you're referring to. The latter proposal calls for the Su-30MKI's airframe to be modified to include reconfigured air intakes and internal weapons stowage in the underbelly. Both upgrade proposals are essentially selective applications of technologies now being developed for the PAK-FA and PMF/FGFA. The stealthy Su-30MKI has been designed for specifically for two tasks: retaining the edge in beyond-visual-range air combat despite the availability of hostile AEW & C capabilities; and the destruction of hostile ground-based air-defence networks/systems. However, for these two tasks to be executed, one requires a new generation of long-range multi-mode BVRAAMs (like the Meteor) and standoff PGMs (both anti-radiation missiles & small-diameter loitering PGMs equipped with tri-mode seekers). Development of these two types of weapons within Russia has fallen behind schedule, but will likely be available by 2016. Only by then will the stealthy Su-30MKI option be seriously looked at by the IAF. At the moment, though, the Boeing F-15SE has the upper hand as it is being made available for immediate export.

With super sukhois and FAGA coming in by the end of this decade, We need a cost effective solution of our requirement. I believe that LCA MK2 fits into that role very well. It will relieve MKIs from many missions.

The LCA is in a completely different class, outmatched by the Sukhois in almost every aspect and the MK II is a paper plane.

Air superiority, Long range strike, besides when Sukhoi deal was signed(mid 90s) then Tejas was no where near operational service(still is not operational and take 1 more year to be fully operational).

For the same reason that the USAF has F-15s and F-16s, although the F-15s can do everything the F-16s can, and do them a lot better. For the same reason that Russia has flankers as well as mig-29s. One is heavy and expensive, but can do a lot more work than the cheaper, lighter ones. It's a way of balancing the force structure.

All modern fighters are multirole fighters, and can do any sort of air mission. But the heavies can do each mission a lot better. So the MKIs can carry more bombs to a farther distance than a Tejas can, or carry more a2a missiles than the Tejas can. But both can do either role.

By 2018, IAF should have 272 Su-30MKI and PAF should have 150 JF-17, forming the backbones of the two air forces.

Super Sukhoi and Block 3 JF-17 should be comparable.

How can a heavy aircraft comparable to a light aircraft? You are comparing apples with oranges here.

In terms of capability. For instance, JAS-39 was developed to counter Su-27, which it can do very well.
