What's new

India has Red Planet Fever.

I don't mean this as a troll comment, but rather in genuine concern.
Don't you think the money would be better spent on poverty alleviation and other social welfare programs?
the moon and mars will be there for at least another billion years
For countries like India, Pakistan, etc right now is the time to bring people out of poverty.
don't you think so?

Everything has its own place. Its is how you allocate it. IMO, Corruption has much larger impact on availability of funds, then Space exploration ever will. If anything that needs to be done to bring people out of poverty, then it has to be rooting out corruption, creating/boosting more employment friendly industries, more trade and next generation of economic reforms. The money spent on space exploration is minuscule as compared to even some pet projects of some politicians.

exactly poverty and hunger is not because of lack of resources ,rather due to mis-management of of it, otherwise we would not have tons of food grains ******* in storage when many were in need of it...

By the way ISRO should launch more programmes like deep space probes and space observatories ,that will be very useful to our universities and scientists.besides our contributions in astronomy in modern time is not really enough when compared to our potential and our achievements in the past.

do you have some inside info as to the government not being helpful?

who do you think gives ISRO the money to achieve what they want to do ?

Do u need proof of every obvious thing??????

Last time India have selected Airbus mid air refuel Tanker or take the proposal of recruiting 90,000 troops against china both of these proposals was shot down by the finance ministry.

Do you think those politicians who don't support defense of our country even after years of neglect, care for space program???

What the fcuk. What is the use of exploring mars.

Lets say it has water? how is going to help.

No, investing into education and science is the fastes way to get many people out of poverty. Space technology also creates high paying jobs for the brightest of the country.

good points

now if only we could educate ourselves out of corruption

wake me up when these jokers can put a human in space.

until the most basic aspect of spaceflight is achieved, these are all fantasies and wet dreams.

indians talk big, like retail FDI or commonwealth games(epic fail), but end up only humiliating themselves.

Atleast we acknowledge our failure there and then rather than after 30 -40 years.

Some jokers afters years of stealing space technology ,could put man into space only few years back.

God only knows if they actually did it for real or its their typical orchestrated drama.

why would a chinese person have a inferiority complex w.r.t. india? china is ia ahead of india in every aspect of space technology.

on topic: i assume if this mission does happen it will be on a russian rocket as india does not have a powerful enough rocket to send a mission to mars with any useful payload. in addition is there any indian plan for manned landing on mars? china has a tentative date(non-authoritative) for a mars landing at some point several decades in the future .

Good to see the space industry is taking off in India. Means good job opportunities for me if I choose to move to India once I complete my education. :)
