India hangs up on hotline to Pentagon

One thing both US and China need to understand is that even though cold war is over, we are still committed to Non Alignment..we are not interested pick sides in third wolrd war(unless we are already a part of it.) ie unlike our nighbours, We will not become a Client state to any world power, because it brings more harm than good.

During cold war.. even though India had friendlier with Soviet Union than America..but we never became a Soviet satellite unlike warsaw countries.
In 21st century India-US relations will be along the lines of Indo-Soviet relations in the last century..not the ones that impinges on our sovereignty.

This is the smart way of getting things done albeit a slow way. War is definitely not an option. Not even America can afford to have an all out nuclear war with China and Russia, let alone bringing in two more nuclear armed countries: India and Pakistan.
This is the 21st century we are living in, it is better to sit down and discuss with a glass of wine than to hold a gun whilst offering a pen.

JUst another link in the chain why Pakistan will remain militarily important for America.
India will never boost the same kind of influenc
e which Pakistan does in the middle east as well.

You are right, Greasing up and bending over to uncle sam or al-saud is never an option for us, the things in which you are champions already.

You will certainly retain those "millitarily important positions" till eternity. We are all very proud of your achievements in that front.

Wait.... US is not in any direct military conflict with China. Then why should CENTCOM handle Chinese affairs?

.
I wonder whether Chinese affairs are handled by CENTCOM or PACOM....

Technically Pakistan is handled by PACOM but is handled by CENTCOM recently (2001) because CENTCOM is in charge of all American ongoing wars and conflicts. As such CENTCOM is in charge of Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. As such China is handled by PACOM which extends all the way to Japan and has a huge proportion of the USN and the only foreword deployed USN ACC (in Okinawa).

Come on you can't be serious! To the US you are a nessercary evil. Post-9/11 the US needed you assistance in their WoT in Afghanistan as you are the creators of their enemies. Whereas India is a wanted relationship the US wants for mutually beneficial economic, military and social reasons. Pre-9/11 Pakistan was treated as a pariah state (military coup, 1998 nuclear tests, funding of terrorists etc) so I wonder what changed? It wasn't your democracy was it? They NEEDED you that's all. I wonder why Obama left you out in his Asian tour last year if your so "close" and "invaluable"? Without US policy (somewhat) behind you, Pakistan would be among the likes of North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia and Libya, it IS but the US try to avoid talking about it. It already is in the top ten failed states list.

As someone who lives in the UK and travels to the US regularly let me tell you that in both (and the majority of the western world) Pakistan is viewed by the majority of the public as a lost cause and a danger to global security, NOT a close ally of the West. Whereas India is seen in much more positive light as a shining light of the developing world and future global power. All the news that comes out of Pakistan seems to be bad whilst most of the news about India seems to be positve, one only had to glance the South Asia section of any major new site to see the HUGE disparity.

In marked contrast, the three most negatively viewed countries saw their average ratings go from bad to worse, including Iran (59 per cent negative, up three points since 2010), North Korea (55 per cent, up six points), and Pakistan (56 per cent, up five points)

This is really good news..! Clearly giving signals and intentions of our GOV.:tup:

That is why Muslim brotherhood came to India to help them with elections and not Pakistan

Muslim brotherhood was accused of being Al-qaeda groupie ;) and you are taking pride that alleged "terrorists" come to you for helping them with elections ??

It would be really nice if America can become a friend for once rather than a consultant or adviser. We want friendly ties, not to be dictated and pushed around. I do not like to make political statements but will give credit to the government for not falling in.

Yes and we all wish for USA and Pakistan co-operation to continue for many more years.

We Indians will cheer on that.

The United States does not have friends. It has interests. Some house slaves in the US may tell you that the US is a friend of India, but do you really believe them? After all, these same house slaves that call themselves Indian all were the first to dump Indian citizenship and become Americans, and call themselves pure 100% Americans in front of the whites, while claiming their Indianness to you! It is just like the house slave telling the free Africans how great the master is, how they get more food than being free, how being the master's friend can make them live a comfortable life!

The day USA starts treating India the same way USA treats UK, is the day India will have a hotline to Pentagon. :)
