India greatest recipient of US economic assistance over 66-year period: USAID

U.S set you back decades,,, now that's a joke.

Absolutely yes.

The USA spared no cost to ensure their ally the KMT would stay in power, no matter what.

The Chinese civil war didn't need to be so destructive, if the KMT didn't have all those American weapons and funding they would have lost a long time ago.

Instead Chiang Kai-shek spent all his effort fighting fellow Chinese instead of the Japanese, to the extent that his own generals had to kidnap him, and force him to fight the Japanese.

All that aid and Indians still don't have access to basic sanitation

From your list of recipients of Indian aid,I just calculated per capita aid received by country. Bhutan receives 1160 usd per capita indian aid and Maldives 95 usd per capita,on the other hand Bangladesh got 0.35 usd per capita. Why is this vast imbalance ?

Depends upon the bilateral relations and the number of projects being financed - India and Bhutan have been have been traditionally close right from the very beginning - Almost all power projects in Bhutan are either partially or wholly being financed by India - India sets up power projects in Bhutan and in turn imports 1500 MWe of power every year from it - Bhutan is a power-surplus state - all projects backed by India in Bhutan face very little bureaucratic hurdle - all projects are cleared at the earliest and the cooperation from Bhutan side is tremendous - leaves nothing to complain about for by the Indian companies working in Bhutan. The investment returns are the highest.

But this has not been the case in many other countries due to political reason - for example when Mohamed Nasheed was overthrown as the President of Maldives - the new government revoked India's GMR's contract to build the Male Airport - half of the construction work was already complete with the investments made but all of a sudden when the contract the revoked it meant loss for GMR and decrease in Investor confidence.

The reason behind the imbalance are often political - at time countries avoid utilizing aid due to internal politics - like in Nepal's case - India gave Nepal a $1.3 billion credit line in 2011 but due to the left parties/communists pressure on the government - they avoided using much of it - only $150 million was utilized until 2014 - (But now they have been provided with $1 billion more apart from the previous $1.3 billion for earthquake relief - they have no other option left to utilize the aid at the fullest).

As far as Bangladesh is concerned - Indian assistance to Bangladesh has been growing every year - From Rs.350 crores in 2014 to Rs.580 crores in 2015.

During Modi's recent visit - India announced another $1 billion of credit line to Bangladesh which has pretty flexible terms - New Delhi would not have any objection to the diversion of its $1.0 billion credit line for constructing the Padma Bridge as the World Bank scrapped a loan deal exposing the project to a difficult state.

Bangladesh welcomes India's one billion dollar aid

Apart from the government - Indian Private Sector is pretty keen on investing in Bangladesh - Reliance Power and BPDB have signed a MOU to develop four units of power plants to produce 3,000 MW of electricity with a cost of $3 billion and Adani Power will set up two, coal-fired plants with a total capacity of 1,600 MW that will cost more than $1.5 billion.

India-Bangladesh ties are stronger than ever and India will continue aiding infrastructure projects in Bangladesh - aid and assistance will continue to grow in the years to come.

you are talking 30's and 40's, lmao

once the KMT and followers went to Formosa/Taiwan what stopped China from turning into a powerhouse???

you all had a huge ally in Russia :D and plenty of resources. so it doesn't make sense why China was underdeveloped and stagnate for over 40 years

we bombed the crap out of both Germany and Japan and they both bounced back quick and stronger than ever.

your excuse is weak.

But you were also given aid but still you are eating dog.:omghaha::omghaha:

Indians beg for aid behind the scenes. One of the few countries to actually do so. Brits give you aid like crazy.

Try to use that aid properly.

Is that a joke? America funded the wrong side of the Civil war in China (KMT), setting us back by decades. :disagree:

And you're right, your country India is indeed a big boy now, no need to talk about American aid anymore.

Like Bobby Jindal said: India is desperate for America's hand on their head.

You are joking right? Forgetting about the US support and AID during the 70's and 80's as a counterweight to Soviet Union.

China has trillions, China gives out money in the billions.

Where American "aid" goes, their interests go as well. Does anyone really believe they are throwing billions of dollars a year at foreign governments just for fun.

Good point, whatever serves the national interests, courtesy of US taxpayers. Always. :D

Interesting stats, Indian total assistance (economic+military) 65.6 billion USD. 40 Billion USD was till 1968 rest 25.6 billion USD from 1968 till now. Pakistan's total assistance is 57.3 Billion USD, almost uniformly distributed, 1992-2001 being lowest. 400 million USD was given to british india (in 1946) with heading "India" (so much for people telling India coming to existence only in 1947).View attachment 237386 View attachment 237387
