What's new

India govt. in a 2002 speech promises to "make India a Developed Nation by 2020"; Only 13 days left in 2020, what is the progress of this plan?

Why do Indian politicians brag endlessly about being a superpower in 2012/2020/2030? With the level of poverty in India it is a disgrace and an insult to those poor people.

Only crazy promises can win votes.
For example: India will become a superpower.
Make America great again.

Or :he is the bad guy, do not choose him, I am not as bad as him. o_O

It is Dec. 19th 2020 today. Only 12 days left in 2020. Any progress of the fabulous Indian 2020 plan?

Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Independence Day Address 2002 says: Our aim is to free India from the curse of poverty and unemployment. It is to make India a Developed Nation by 2020.

Now that only 13 days left in 2020, may I know the progress of this promise?

Between 2002 and 2020, 10 years were lost to Congress. You conveniently overlook that.

It is as our good pal Kermit stated once “rainbows are visions, but only illusions“. Some people spend all their time chasing colorful illusions that they forget to do anything productive with their lives.

The definition of indians keep changing too. Apparently congress is no longer indian. Only "pure" janeudhari brahmin who believes in chanakya is now the gold standard of indian.

Do you understand the difference between Aim and policy?
Is that outside a Chinese refugee camp in India to ensure the Chinese don't feel homesick? Hahaha

All the jokes aside, I think that there would be far greater respect for India on this forum if their politicians set realistic goals. If you think about it in the past few decades India has made tremendous strides in the following fields:

1) Steel production: No 2 in the world, even ahead of Japan and the U.S.
2) Largest producer of dairy products
3) Best preserver of megafauna among developing countries, especially for large cats like tigers, lions, and leopards. Currently India is the only place in the world where lions and tigers coexist
4) NO3 in terms of power production and tremendous progress in terms in renewable energy capacity installed.

Instead of focusing on what India has or can achieve, their politicians make outlandish predictions that can't be achieved. Let me put forth another example:

Let's say that your parents wanted you to go to Harvard very badly and since you were a toddler, kept on telling everyone in the neighborhood about how their kid is gonna make it big and go to Harvard. Now that you are grown up, got a great education, hold a pretty good high paying job, but did not attend Harvard. Is it wrong for the neighbors to laugh at your parents for setting an unrealistic goal?

Just as Sharif and Bhutto-Zardari families work against Pakistan's interests, Congress work against India's interests.

Who works for india's interests ? those IIT's whose students immediately leave on graduation? those corporates with huge swiss bank deposits but default on loans from indian banks ? the corrupt armed forces who cannot defend 10 kms of land in kashmir but spent 30000 crores on foreign weapon purchases in ONE MONTH ?

Steel and diary products is a function of population really. And steel is also a function of existing poor infrastructure. INdia would also be a large producer of grains and vegetables because people need to be fed. But none of them came because it is a concerted action by indian govt.

India had the asia's first largest integrated steel plant in asia under british rule. If anything india lost all its advantages which came with british and produces over expensive steel.
