India Firm On Currency Identity

The symbol should be simple and have minimum amount of strokes. In my opinion, it should either be the Hindi Character for R as proposed by Govind Dhar and Amol Ghotkar or the character for Ru as proposed by Chetan Hosur, Naveen Deshpande. I prefer the latter 'Ru' symbol.

Will all countries who use Rupee will use this symbol? just like $ is used by everyone.

It actually depends, if countries want to adopt the symbol they can as the rupee goes in the same denominations regardless. Just the dollar symbol is basically the same all over the world, other countries can also adopt the rupee symbol for their benefit, hope that answers your question.

The symbol should be a simple R with some artistic twist to it. We do not need to pass any underlining message with it. It has to be easy to write and remember, keep in mind it will represent our currency forever. You don’t want to have artwork when you are writing fast.

Desiman, this will lead to a lot of confusion as the international value of each currency is different. However, if you look at the dollar, the Canadian, Singapore and Australian dollar have different value but have to be prefixed by the country if not US. This leads to a lengthy description of the currency symbol defeating its very purpose.

What say ?

I like the idea of using the symbol Swastika without dots. else it would take time to draw for practical use.

Actually if you research the reason behind the currency symbol, you can see that it was mainly invented to allow stock and currency traders to understand different currency denominations. Just as in the dollar, any currency with the $ sign can easily be recognized and valued using a bench mark of 1 dollar. As we all know rupee do not work like that. 1 rupee cannot be the benchmark for trading as the value it too less. That is why our currency is normally valued in multiple rupees to compare with the dollar. A consistent currency symbol for all rupee using countries would greatly simplify many things and actually go onto benefit everyone. The purpose of this new currency symbol is to make the rupee an internationally known currency and trading medium, something that will benefit India greatly.
