get out of your tunnel vision analysis. how's it russia bashing when india as a consumer chooses to have options for it's requirements? it's not that india has alienated russia for it's defence requirements. still russia is india's major defence partner! then again i'm not surprised by your analysis! i do sympathise with your narrow minded definition!!

Deals signed, Putin reminds India: Never sold arms to Pak


India and Russia on Friday signed several agreements on defence, space and nuclear cooperation even as Moscow gently reminded New Delhi that it remained the only power in the world that had never supplied military equipment to Pakistan. The two sides also signed a comprehensive nuclear deal and an agreement to build two power plants in Kodankulam in Tamil Nadu.

Sources said visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin recalled historic ties that bind the two sides and reiterated his country’s commitment to India by pointing out that Russia had refused to sell military hardware to Pakistan.

The two sides signed several agreements to enhance defence cooperation in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the visiting Russian PM. They signed a $2.33 billion deal to refurbish the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov and $1.6 bn deal to buy 29 new MiG-29K fighters for Navy. As many as 14 supplementary agreements were signed on the final price and technical issues on the Gorshkov carrier. An agreement was also signed on the military aviation sector.

Get your facts right. Without Russia DRDO, ISRO and all the other famous Indian institutions would be fish out of water. Russia's contribution to Indian defence program, space program is unparalleled.

There is no "brotherly relationship " , "special relations " or anything of that sort . Indians understand business relationships just too well. There are no permanent allies or enemies only permanent interests. Now Russian arm twisting isn't gonna work , as we diversify our spare suppliers too.

No matter our dependency on foreign equipment for now , the GOI should invest in-house R& D and actively encourage private players to enter the defense market. The 25 % FDI should be progressively increased to 50 % and then beyond . There is no lack of engineering or research talent in the country , all we need is to invest in world class infrastructure.

Dont mix business with friendship.

This stand by India might hurt Russia temporarily, but once this phases passes and is taken professionaly by Russia,things will be easier to deal in future with no scope of any dispute among both the countries.
