India finalising negotiations for 48 additional Mi-17-V5 helicopters from Russia

Why are we getting Mi-17s when there is a project for IMRH initiated domestically?

Are we retiring MI-8s? This is waste of public money in the medium term.
IMRH will take ages. But it may succeed since it's an internal HAL project and politics is less likely to throw a spanner. But further orders of Mi-17 will certainly slow it down.

Yes, all Mi-8 have been phased out by last year.

Then this is a disastrous deal. We shouldn't have gone ahead with that. Now what justification do we have for IMRH? Nothing.

Unless IAF buys them, no foreigner would be ready to accept them.

IMRH?

LUH still hasn't got into production and you have so high hopes about a still on paper project?

How many in service already?

Around 130 Mi17V5 (IAF got 138, out of which 6-8 are for VVIP duties) and 90 Mi17V (old version) (90 was the original number bought, can't say how many are active.

Thats 220 around.

All Mi8 have been retired in IAF, however 4-5 might still be active in Paramilitary forces.

Why not army

we've Mi series and Dhruv for that. but not a good ASW platform for the navy
