Well too early to term it as a success or failure in defense sector, there are some immediate requirements so no time for local manufacturing, then there are some systems for which we won't get technological transfer for. For others in the medium and long term you will see more and more joint production in India through JVs, it may be Frigates, Rafaels, F16s, Helicopters and everything else. On topic the Russians are in the forefront of these JV Brahmos, FGFA etc as they are not averse in sharing sensitive tech with India, so at least in short and medium term India doesn't have any reason to feel threatened

yes they feel threatened, they even complained to Russia about Pak Russia excercise which in reality should never be concern of bhartis. But as miandad and afridi said baniyas have very little heart.. They proved it again, they have mentality that they own russia bcoz they buy weapons from them..

agreed 1oo%. no doubt we cant say that Russia is our ally for now but it is also the fact thta things have changed very much. who could think even about the supply of millitary equipments by Russia to Pak? nobody could think that Russia would do drills with Pak regardless of the efforts which india did to prohibit theses.
one thing is damn sure that Russia-india relations are not ebbing but it is also true that Pak relations are improving which in future will present conflict for Russia and it would have to choose b/w the two.
