Strongly condemning the steep hike in petrol price, Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa today demanded its immediate rollback, warning that otherwise people's agony would spell the doom for the 'anti-people' UPA government soon.

Sharply reacting to the steep hike in petrol price, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee today said her party would not accept it but said her party would not topple the UPA government on the issue.

UPA is getting crazy. this reminds of a news line earlier,

Sonia Gandhi tells UPA: Time's running out, So perform.

I welcome positive criticism about ongoing crisis but Some Pak or Chinese frnds has come to street fighting with indians. Policy paralysis might have been one of the reason on current rupee depreciation though I m not expert.

Why 1 million Indians Escape from India every year?

Non Resident Indian Population around the globe

Any crackdown on illegal immigrants abroad or restricting quotas to Indians are a major concern to India’s politicians. The latest statistics from US Department of Homeland Security shows that the numbers of Indian illegal migrants jumped 125% since 2000! Ever wondered why Indians migrate to another countries but no one comes to India for a living? Here are some Indian facts:

And now with the Indian Rs going down more reason to leave India

Thank god but none of them settling down in Pakistan except few fugitives(Dawood)....

Guys, please kindly stick to the topic! The topic has nothing to do with Pakistan.

True that so far only democratic countries collapes, such as Iceland, likely ones as Greece, never for non-democratic countries, even very poor ones, such as N Korea or Cuba.

But I won’t give it a damn thing that India’s collapse is imminent. More, India is impossible to collapse so far. India is not Iceland, nor Greece. Elephant is very different from the two PIGS:

1) Iceland and Greece are highly developed countries. Their human rights are well protected, and their democracies are healthy and mature. It is impossible, or otherwise very difficult, to cut down workers’ benefits to repair the economy. India is in none of the positions: no respectable human rights, not a society ruled by laws and orders but nepotism. India can transit through the crises by starving death to more outcastes and slashing more public education funds, for instance.

2) Iceland’s main means to earn hard currency is through tourism, and Greece is very similar, though better. India is nonetheless in a much better position. “Iron, chrome, lead, copper and zinc ores are the most important metals exported to China in terms of size and total export share, ranging from 80% up to 100%.” india's export to china is not diverse As long as China is still moving forward, the needs for those ores will not stop. (How clownish are some Indians longing for collapse of China. LOL! ) Devaluation of Indian currency will only make those exports more competitive. Believe at this news, many Chinese importers are more jubilant than their brothers in the forum, of course for very different reasons.

3) India has lots black markets that are not regulated and less prone to Rupee values, more like primitive goods exchange market. The impact would be minimal.

You guys believe or not, I think India will move on, NOT COLLAPES, maybe in a little bit different ways. :agree:

Edit to add this: collapes of India is not good for none countries in SA, Asia, even the world. Its lack of capability to buy weapons might be good news to the peace of SA and the world.

Sonia is the biggest thief with eight billion usd in overseas act....she is not indian...she is behaving like a traitor....

Funny how some are reading it. For years now China has been accused of keeping the Yuan at an artificial lower rate so as to help the economy but the rupee going down is supposed to hurt Indian industry. Yeah right! While it is true that a continuing fall will spook foreign investors who cannot be sure of the value of their investment, it is not as if there is going to be a free fall. Ya imports(especially oil) will become costlier but it's way too early to imagine it being a major crisis.

I am glad that Indian economy is showing slowdown.....It will be good wake up call for lazy government and the RBI .....Pakistani and Chinese ....dont shy trolling....I am loving it...

Yen strengthens due to GOJ stepping in using their massive reserve to stabilize their currency. (more than 1 trillion dollars)

Damn it. Unlucky guys you have a bad government lacking crisis management, to what is worse,

Petrol price was increased today by Rs 7.50 a litre with effect from midnight tonight. After the increase, petrol will be priced at Rs 73.14 per litre in Delhi.[/COLOR

I partly agree with gpit, nobody saying India is in collapse but in deep crisis, the gov need to be urged for this upcoming current account crisis, and financially crisis very likely.

Instead of hike fuel price, a proper gov action should include, limiting currency broker trading, limiting shorting on stock market, unite policies through central to state level, consult with BRICS nations to establish alternative plan, such as Yuan arrangement for payment, etc.

Rating firms' downgrading India is on way so this Congress Gov need quick action.

Are the facts and statistics given in the article below all true? How is India still able to function with that many problems? Somewhere down the years, you guys are definitely going to need to reinvent yourselves and adopt a more functional model. These problems do not look like they are going away anytime soon.

No doubt, there is alot of promise as well as you guys are certainly leading the world in many aspects when it comes to Science and technology. Yet, large segments of the population still have not seen the benefits. It's pretty much like squeezing the USA and Africa into one single nation and border.

Wait: additions to the real face of india which have an impact on their economy and many social problems are running out of control

The report posted by Aryan_B is thorough but not exhaustive!

Dont be naive on india. it is perhaps the biggest cheat on earth, well covered by usa and most of the west!

Just off my head, india is also home to:

1. largest hub for narcotics
2. largest human guinea pigs used for testing new drugs ( for western pharmceutical companies).
3. largest arms importer
4. largest airforce pilots get killed on flight missions and largest no of airforce plane crashes
5. the largest growth in population in world each year
6. the largest gay population
