India Eyes Su-30 AESA Upgrade

IIRC, the Su30MKI engines cannot produce enough power to run the AESA radars (especially the ones which are in Su35BM). I dont know how or what will power these AESA radars? Correct me if I am wrong. Are these AESA radars different from those in Su35BM?
 
I dont think MKI is that outstanding that its a serious issue for PAF.. :)

Well off course it is not outstanding for 2010 , i mean the aircraft specs were frozen in 1996 , and since its delivery in 1998 , it has not been upgraded why do u think India is going for MLU in 2012
MKI was state of the art in yr 2000 , but with same spec it can not be classified as state of the art today
By the way MLU has been approved for only first 100 Aircraft at the cost of Rs 10800 Crore or 2.4 Billion USD ie 24 Million USD each
which is more expensive than Mig29 Upgrade but cheaper than Mirage 2000 upgrade

Finally It is not the quality of MKI which is the concern but the number of MKIs which currently stands at 270 by 2017 and could go to 300+ if there is delay in LCA MK2

On the parked MiG-35 visting VIPs could get a closer look at the Russian latest AESA radar – the Zhuk-AE AESA, developed by Phazotron NIIR Corporation. India is already operating the BAR phased array radar on its Su-30MKI and has specified AESA as a critical element of the MRCA platform. This radar was developed with modular approach, enabling upgrading existing Zhuk ME/MSE radars, into the phased array equipped MFE/MSFE standard, deployed in MiG-29/Su-27 platforms.

This 3cm (X-band) radar. The Russians designed their radar to produce linear power output at the range of 6-8 watt, to address available power (provided by the aircraft) and performance (range). The radar uses multiple four channel transceivers modules generating an output of 5watt per channel, installed on a liquid cooled base plate to dissipate the generated heat. If a specific transceiver is overheated, it will be switched off by the radar computer until it cools down.

Zhuk-AE can detect aerial targets at ranges up to 130 km (head on) in both look-up or look down modes. Look-up tail-on detection range is 50km (40km look down). The radar can track 30 aerial targets in the track-while-scan mode, and engage six targets simultaneously in the attack mode.

The radar provides target designation data for various Russian made missiles such as the R-27R1(R1E0, RVV-AE, R-73E, Kh-31A, Kh-35E and R-27T(TE) missiles. The radar can distinguish and count closely flying targets as well as identifying targets with known signatures. Close maneuvering combat mode optimizes the system's performance to provide effective vertical scans, coverage of the HUD field-of view, and slew to follow the helmet sighting angles. Special optimization is also provided in the helicopter detection mode, detecting and attacking slow-flying and hovering targets. In the air/surface mode the radar supports ranging, mapping and tracking of moving targets, The radar supports real-beam, Doppler beam sharpening and focused synthetic aperture modes, offering different map scale expansion, map 'freezing', and tracking of four targets, including ground or sea-surface moving targets. It has a sea-surface search mode. The Zhuk AE can detect a destroyer size target at a range of 200 km.
 
which radar is fitted on the resently delivered MIG-29K to indian navy...?

MIG-29K for Indian Navy are equipped with Zhuk ME, Which is very capable in any parameters. Mig 29S (Fulcrum-C) IAF Designation: Baaz. Type: Multirole Air Superiority Aircraft. 66 Single Seater and 6 Two seat trainer versions in active service. India and Russia signed a US$800 million to upgrade the Mig 29 to latest SMT standards but with additional Indian/Israeli/French equipment, plus Zhuk ME radar, new Mission computers, airframe overhaul, new EW fit, new engines etc.

welll im sure PAF has something out in their think tank how to stop IAF power force in future i smell something big is coming for PAF in some 5 to 8 years time

The current engines cannot run the IBRIS AESA on the Su 35..the plan IIRC was always to develop a BARS AESA for the MKI.
 
AESA of Russia is developed based on the engine of SU 35BM i guess.. some one correct me if i am wrong..

Su-35BM presently uses Irbis-E PESA and yes it cannot be used on our MKIs with current engines. However the said engines here are designed to work with that of MiG-29s unless they got the name of radar wrong.
 
But the SuperViper a single engine aircraft can?...

No ..they cant...For the AESA radars they use, they produce enough power.. but for the radar used on Su-35 BM they cant ..

It depends on how powerful radar you want to use on your Plane..
He was specially talking about the radars used in Su-35BM..SU-30MKI engines can not produce enough power to cater the demands of the radar of Su-35..This radar is the most powerful radar being used on a plane right now except maybe Raptor..
