The crews of Air Forces of India, Egypt, Pakistan, and Armenia are planning to participate in an international air proficiency competition – the Aviadarts, which will be held next year, Russian Air Force Colonel-General Viktor Bondarev told reporters on Sunday.
According to the commander, participating on the international stage in the summer of 2015 will be Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and China.
“Already this year, the seven-country format will exist, with countries first participating as observers, and later as full participants. And in 2016, it is certain that added will be India and Egypt, and very likely also Pakistan and Armenia,” said Colonel-General Bondarev.
In 2014, the competition became an international event – when the Russian national team was challenged by pilots from Belarus and China.
Aviadarts – is a competition in accurate shooting using rocket launchers and aircraft cannons against ground targets. Participants must demonstrate the complex combat skills of air force pilots in various situations, as well as their level of professional training. The competition also includes aerial performances by pilots. Organizers emphasize that despite the combat use of air missiles, the Aviadarts is not a training exercise, but a sporting event.

For this competition, however, the aircraft were each loaded with a 250 kg unguided bomb. Crews had to hit a target the size of a lorry with this bomb from an altitude of 600 m and at an appropriate speed – a test of accuracy that can be compared to throwing a coin into the coin slot on a petrol pump from a moving car. The pilots hit the target.
