India Developing, but still a long way to go

Their HSR is meant to elevate China's GDP growth by infrastructure boom, its not meant for making business. Even the rich countries of the west having much higher per capita income than China aren't building such a huge network of HSR.

Indeed the majority of their infra projects in the last 5 or so years were part of a stimulus package effectively. But good for them- they've got enough infra for the next 10 years.

Sojitz Receives the Contract of Civil & Track Works for Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Project in India

Sojitz Corporation (Sojitz) and Larsen & Toubro Ltd. in India (L&T) received a contract from Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle under Ministry of Railways in India, to construct civil and track works for a 626 km section out of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor ("Western DFC") connecting between Delhi and Mumbai. The contract amount is approximately 110 billion yen, which is ever the largest contract under Japanese ODA loan.

Western DFC project is to construct the dedicated freight corridor with total length of 1,500km between Delhi, the capital city, and Mumbai, a commercial hub. Our contract is the first largest-scale one of the Western DFC project. The section covered by the contract connects between Rewari, Haryana in northern India and Ikbalgarh, Gujarat in the west. The contract includes civil works, track works and construction of freight terminals and bridges.

The contract was awarded to the consortium, which Sojitz and L&T associate. Sojitz, as the consortium leader, will undertake overall project management. Sojitz will also procure head hardened rails is manufactured in Japan through Metal One Corporation, a Sojitz affiliate. L&T will undertake design work, construction and project management. The construction will commence in summer of 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2017. The Western DFC is an Indian national project and is recognized as a symbol of Indian - Japanese economic cooperation. This project is also “Backbone” of the Delhi - Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project,* which is being implemented through cooperation by Japan and India.

Northern India centered on Delhi is India's leading commercial and industrial region. The Western region centered on Mumbai includes Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India's largest container port. The Western DFC will contribute to India's economic development by freight transportation which is expected to undergo rapid growth between the north and the west. In addition, more than 250 Japanese companies have sites in the vicinity of the planned route, and the corridor is expected to contribute to the local business of Japanese companies.

Sojitz and L&T will also bid for civil and track works for other sections and electrification works of the Western DFC. Sojitz and L&T are also considering cooperating on other projects in India such as high speed railway project and so forth. Sojitz's railway project business has positioned India along with North America, where it has extensive experiences, as its highest priority market. By leveraging this contract, Sojitz will further expand the business in India.

What will they do after 10 years to elevate GDP growth.

What will they do after 10 years to elevate GDP growth.

Well they are going to need to dramatically increase consumption within their economy as gradually their exports are going to become less and less competitive as wages rise and MNCs look to other developing nations to be their manufacturing hubs. They have been making noises about this for a while with many Chinese economists saying these stimulus packages are not sustainable in the long run and seem to appreciate this is what they need to do.

That is wrong. The HSR will help in improving infra, developing new technology create new areas of manufacturing and most important of them all create more. And that does means business.Sparsely populated rich countries like USA don't need HSR.It won't be commercially viable for them. But for countries like China and India it is.

H$R's run @ 500 kms. hr.

Aeroplanes, same-same; without the huge start-up costs, so said ex-prez. Abdul Kalam.

HSR's are a make-work scheme and will be funded by the suppliers like Japan, France and Germany who need long-term investment clients.

India, unfortunately, is game for such deals, Pakistan also.
A Lahore-Krunchy-maybe Isloo HSR is straight line obvious. It's a bit like the $ 10 Billion, 20 yr. Dassault fighter jet deal. The Indian contract saved the Co. from going under. They got many more deals after the Indian deal.

How much will India actually pay Dassault for the jets?

If we break it down on monthly EMI terms, never mind French govt. long-term soft loans, it only comes out to approx. $ 100 Million, about Indian Rs. 500 Cr.'s. And like the Maruti-Suzuki 'offset' program which turned India into a Global auto hub with $10 Billion in auto exports in 2013, India will set up an entire mega manufacturing eco-system and turn into an aerospace hub. It's already happening, some Indian private aeroplanes are among the best in class eg. Mahindra's Gippland Air Van, Tata's Piaggio Avanti, Reliance is in the game with almost unlimited funds, HAL's Swiss revived Dornier's, the X-Air, NAL's upcoming Saras, Tejas fighter, couple of helicopters, future medium civil and military Indian Regional Transport plane, even more futuristic LCA's MCA's, commercial rockets and space shuttles.

Long story short, while HSR's will happen re: the money game, the govt. is turning India into the world's small to medium aero hub, just like auto and IT before. My feeling is now that Indian Co.'s have grown up, they will take this aero game higher.
