Rs 7.35 lakh crore for railways modernisation

ALLAHABAD: Indian Railways is committed to modernization of its vast resources and removal of operational bottlenecks. Modernization is an integral part of investment by railways under various plan heads.

An outlay of Rs. 7.35 lakh crore has been proposed by the Ministry of Railways for the Twelfth Five Year Plan.

The major objectives of the Twelfth Five Year Plan are improving safety, modernization and capacity augmentation. This information was given by Minister of State for Railways, Bharat Singh Solanki in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. Modernization is an ongoing exercise and many activities for augmentation of safety and capacity augmentation also result in modernization.

Thats just an artist's impression. Hyderabad Metro will be using third rail, this one shows overhead electrification.

Four major vendors, including Canada’s Bombardier, a Spanish firm, China CSR Corporation and BEML-Rotem consortium, are in the fray for the 1,800-crore PPP project.

l&t should design their own rolling stock for the metro. they have huge manufacturing facilities and have some of the best design centres of india, they can easily be one of the worlds biggest rolling stock manufacturers.
