Shanakht or Pehchhan : Identity
- Ancient Pakistani Song: Hum ... Actually Aap Log
Howzzat ?

Markandeya is one of my favourite stories of all time. In some ways his story is a hint (same kind of boon offered to the parents) of the great Adi Shankara to come later.

This lady singing is good given sanskrit has been learned by her bit later in life I suppose.

bete@Nilgiri, her Sanskrit is better than you or yours.
She took Sanskrit through O & A levels and did Sanskrit as her degree at ... ahem ... Oxford.

So sorry bro.

So sorry bro.

Um I am talking more about pronunciation. I was brought up at early age in Sanskrit recitation by dedicated "vadyar" as we call in Tamil, especially in sections of Yajur Veda (our grander lineage's Veda) ...who just happened to be my dad too :P

Please do not assume about me :P ...I make similar observations about many North Indian recitations on Sanskrit too....and Hindi is far closer language to Sanskrit than western languages are.

I am all praise for this woman and others like her....because she did not have the early upbringing like me. Not taking one bit away...and only giving honest praise/admiration for it. Don't misunderstand.

Fair dinkum brother, there's Canada and India flags on your post id. Must be Indo-Poonjabi-Kanuckistani, methinks.
I am not born or raised anywhere near Asia, but was brought up by a house-help/'nanny' in Colombo 6, speaking Tamil and Sinhala. Dad's posting. Yrs. recently/later I took a course in Sanskrit and I know to read it, plus-plus.

Sorry can not comment on your 'family business' of warbling in the correct enunciation of Yajur Veda, don't worry too much, nobody's checking up on you ... hehe re. your intellectual inheritance or parental abuse. Many fathers practice language teachings with physical abuse, I have seen.

Don't you miss swaying Palm and Coconut trees of the tropics?

No my friend I am Tamil Iyer....there was no abuse in my learning either (the prayers and such are something given from young age in our households)....and I do not see it as any "inheritance" either.

BTW, is that you in your DP?

Course I miss things of the tropics...no doubt. I will be returning at some point to settle back in my maatrbhumi.
