What's new

India Developing, but still a long way to go

patentneer,

What I would be really interested in is knowing the estimated GDP of Gurgaon alone. How much would it be? $20-30 bn?

^^

Tough question.

  • Maruti Suzuki (world's biggest car plant), Hero (Hero-Honda before, world's biggest bike plant), dlf, Genpact, Bharti Airtel, Go Air or something major desi airline Co., much of Air India nowadyas I bet (AI moved from Bombay and has major ops in Delhi now so I'm guessing), MDH Masala Co. are all mega $ Billion corp.'s with Gurgaon HQ's. Other real-estate co.'s like Tata, Reliance (?), Unitech, Emaar, 3C, M3M, Suncity have $ billions worth of projects, IT Sez's, Nokia, Motorola, Acme Telepower, Alcatel Lucent, Aricent Group and Ericsson. Gurgaon is also home to MNC's like PwC, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, SAP, KPMG, BCG, BT Group, Wunderman, Hines, McKinsey and Nestle. Ericsson, IBM, Accenture, consulting Co.'s, many airline, travel, insurance, telecomunications and engg. outsourcing co.'s have mega operations in Gurgaon. Auto parts, small engg. parts and export houses, legal outsourcing also.

Brijmohan Lal Munjal alone is worth $ 2.2 Billion and he made his money on bikes, imagine what a money spinner Maruti is for the parent Suzuki and it's govt. collaboration shareholders, mainly the Min. of Industry. My guess, if 1 Brijmohan Lal can be over $ 2 Billion, the min. of industry has raked - $ 10 Billion alone from it's Maruti-Suzuki holdings since inception:).
Talk about successful collaborations.

Your estimate is conservative re: Gurgaon's boom within NCR's mega growth. Gurgaon is the Global icon of India's boom. Property valuations are in the 10's, if not 100's of $ Billions alone. Another e.g., IBM Global India makes $ 50 Billion for IBM, and if 1/5'th are in Gurgaon, it's $ 10 Billion right there.

However, wiki says Haryana's total economy is a little shy of $ 1 Billion :(.

Gurgaon and Faridabad together generate over 50% of Haryana's income tax revenues, so if we simply divide above approx. of $ < 1 Billion by 4 = $ < 250 Million which is bullocks from what I saw prima facie 5 months ago when I was in Gurgaon.

I'd say between $ 50 - $ 75 Billion and rising. Comments?

i have a lot of problem with western view of india's problems....look at this video how the brits are having their superiorirty complex and sermonizing india.
their own record on rapes and crimes is not something to be proud of so they should look at their own fuking problems

We indians should not view ourselves using the western narrative...instead we should create an INDIAN NARRATIVE to teach these foreigners their place. They have no right to teach us after looting and destroying our country for centuries.

Shahi Tharoor gave the british panel on their nation television a tight slap on the question of medical aid brits were giving us, video is there on the youtube.

i can't post the link here coz of this minimum 30 post requirement thing, will post it as soon as i am done with the minimum posts ok ???

Yupp, that should be fine :D The only reason for my anxiousness in this regards is that I am a big fan of Shashi Tharoor and his legendary intellect (not to mention his ridiculously hot wife lol!)

I do not have issues with Brits trying to be arrogant or the BBC's propaganda to show their former colonies as forsaken places. But what I found annoying was the desi girl talking about shorts and other clothing being appropriate or not.
My girlfriend visited India in July this year, she had the same reservations as her because of all the rape news and all those rumours about appropriate clothing. She tried wearing Punjabi suits while at my parents place but then she told me that she saw a lot of women wearing denim shorts and she kind of felt stupid with all that women have to cover their bodies crap :hang2:

But she did complain about people starring at her no matter what she was wearing

Extreme Railways : Indias Monsoon Railway

-Epic, and a dash of the old school British glamour re: Indian Railways

Surprisingly, Konkan Rail turned profitable in about 15 yrs. Profit!
Talk was this being a 'social network' project, it would never turn a profit re: govt. project.

patentneer,

As for the second video,

Such ads in my opinion are useless. The Indian "junta" is way to callous to be influenced by such things. The only thing that these people will respond to is mortal fear. Enact the death penalty for littering and India will become the cleanest nation on earth in one month! :omghaha:

... and insensitive. Heartless too. Funny, how there are Heart Specialists in every gully, nook and cranny in India's mega-cities.

News is Volvo to buy 1 Mil. sq./ft. from Bagmane Tech. Parks.
I google the Co. and turns out they do nothing but tech. parks.
A Tech. Park only real-estate Co. !

Mahindra inaugurates India's first Electric Vehicle manufacturing plant
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Mahindra goes green with Reva's green EV plant in Bangalore

mahindra_reva_plant_560x420.jpg

With petrol prices skyrocketing beyond the common mans budget, alternate fuels are sure to make their presence felt sooner than we expected. Mahindra has already thought ahead and will be the first manufacturer to jump onto the electric bandwagon. Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., a part of the US $15.4 billion Mahindra Group, formally inaugurated its manufacturing facility, which is the first platinum rated automobile facility in India.

EV’s are being seen as a serious alternative to fossil fuel driven cars and Mahindra is all set to take a lead in developing the EV segment and the surrounding ecosystem. The new manufacturing plant is, in a way the first tangible proof point of the Future of Mobility – this is the first purpose-built, ground-up EV plant in India, the first manufacturing plant to get IGBC platinum rating, the first plant where cars get their first fill using solar power. In fact, this plant will consume the least amount of energy per car build, with 1/3rd of this energy coming from solar power.

Mahindra Reva also unveiled a host of technologies. The technologies showcased include ‘Quick2Charge’, by which the car can be charged in 15 minutes to run 25 km, thereby providing customers with increased convenience. In order to tap and use the abundant solar energy for mobility, Mahindra Reva has designed a personal charging unit called

  • ‘Sun2Car’ - Provides free and clean energy for the lifetime of the car, making it a very cost-effective solution.
‘Car2Home’ - Provides free and clean energy from car to home :woot: !
While it cannot be said that only Electrics will rule the future, it is certain that alternate fuels make a strong case for themselves and will be here sooner than you think. And when they do, Mahindra will be ready.

Scary New Indians
-------------------

I have met, studied and worked with many, many similar young Indian women like Ruchi here.
They speak Indian English, they are fiercely ambitious, semi-independent and businesslike. They are smart and hard working just like Chinese or Thai women. The main advantage they carry with them is the comfort level with the English speaking OECD world. Working women in India, in the middle-east and the west and east is old news; I'm talking about an all new breed of Indian female IT pro.'s.
Even though a new, mainly Karachi side Mohajir and Ismaili origin pro. class of women has been around, this is where Pakistani society lost out re: yrs. of military rule motivated non-empowerment of a pro. class of women. Believe me, there are 1000's of Indian (not overseas, western or Indian origin, NRI or PIO types) women IT, Pharma, Banking and Insurance 'crore-patis' (should that be .. hehe - crore-'patnis') in India who made it and later made it big when IBM, BT, Cisco, Accenture, KPMG, Oracle, SAP, Cap Gemini and other India based MNC IT 'outsourcing' Co.'s and local IT giants hired them 20-25 yrs. back in the tens of thousands. Many were middle class and continued the career paths, the majority had their careers sidelined re: marriage and children. 1-2 like Infosys founder spouses are even $ Billionaire's in their own right re: their personal stock in the Co., all in India, all local.

Therefore, this is the ongoing story of women's empowerment re: reservations in schools, colleges, buses and trains. What a story!

IT gives this new Indian woman a better then level field to take on the world re: an unbiased, rather motivated math and science even for women, English speaking eco-system and some support from newly empowered mother's, grandmother's, brother's and father's.

This is speacially noticeable in a V shape coastal India all the way from Gujarat, down to Bombay, Pune, Kerala, Tamil, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Andra, all the way to Bengal and specially from Bengal to Assam and the 7 sister states. Bombay, Bengal and Kerala were pioneers in Indian women taking front seat.
