My hometown - Chandigarh, home to architectural projects of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Matthew Nowicki, and Albert Mayer.

The most beautiful and well maintained city of India. City has a human deveoplemt index [HDI] of .987 compared to .619 for India alone.

Chandigarh is divided in sectors and each sectors have four blocks( A,B,C,D). Each sector apart from residential area has been provided with commercial area( Shop cum flats, single storey shops & separate shops for vegetables/fruits). Same planning is replicated in urban areas of Mohali (Punjab) & Panchkula (Haryana).

Chandigarh has parallal tracks for cycles and rickshaws along most of the roads.

This city does not boast of skyscrapers. But the quality of life is best. Nice clean wide roads, full electricity & high quality drinking water supply and beautiful parks for every sector. This city has the highest population ratio of Rupee millionaires in the country according to a TOI.

well gone are your golden days friends...the government is all set to change the face of dharavi
more then Rs 9,300 crore has already been alloted and the work has begun, dharavi is all set to get a makeover...

Mukesh Ambani’s 2 Billion dollar Home – Antilla

Wow! World’s fifth richest man, Mukesh Ambani is again in news for building world’s most expensive residence. Whilst in January ABC news revealed that the house would be worth $1 billion but now figures seem to have turned two-fold. This Mumbai-based petrochemical mogul of Reliance Industries is fortunate to have a floating wealth of $46 billion.

He is hoping that the completion of four-year construction of “Antilla” by coming January would tag world’s most expensive adobe to his name, thereby beating the lifestyle of billionaires like Warren Buffet who reside in reserved lodging. If you don’t know then this 27-story Mumbai Tower is positioned 550 feet into the sky with a bizarre 400,000 sq ft of internal space costing a total of $2 billion.

Some insights into the internal geography of the estate: With no two floors alike. Ambani wishes to have each floor developed using different blueprint, material, style and unique architectural essentials. In addition, the peculiar shape of the formation is the out result of his belief in Vaastu. At technical front, the lobby endows entrée to the home via nine elevators, and the detailed crystal-packed ballroom features mounted LCD monitors, a giant sound system and a retractable cabinet for artworks. It would also feature the wonderful feel of ice sauna inviting all family and guests to burn the heat away by bathing in a room filled with man-made snow. Also, the unusual home theater is another aspect worth noticing.

Some interesting facts about this 2 billion-dollor house:

For some reason I hate this family.If they didnt broke out, they would have been the richest family in the world with total net of almost $100billion.
Certainly they will be the richest in the whole world if stayed together .And no one can beat their place for the next 100 years with the second rich having their fortune pegged at 60 billion.
and we might not have been though all these family disputes now which are virtually effecting the economy of India.

If you can digest the immense growth of India, dont comment on it. We have our problems and step are being take by our democratic government to solve them. These childish post only outline jealousy on your part and nothing else. If you want i can post at least 100 link about India richness also and also about the poor in Pakistan. These types of post do nothing by harm the relationship between India and Pakistan. The topic of the thread is india developing but still a long way to go and we know that and yes within the next 10 years India will be on par with every other industrialized nation. I live in Toronto and i can tell you that the reverse trend of graduates going back to India is very huge here. The salaries and perks offered to foreign graduates in India is on par if not better than what western companies offer. Add to that the extreme growth potential, the huge market available, free media, easy financing and world class services, the only thing you can do is get amazed by the giant that India is. You can behave like a child and point out towards the poor in India but the fact is that things have improved dramatically in the past 10 years and if you still continue to live in the notion that India is country of poor people and snake charmers then there is nothing that anyone can do about it. India does not follow China's practice of mass production is sweat shops but focuses on innovation and excellence. If you want more proof watch these -

Dont get me wrong China growth is truly amazing and cannot be compared but India follows a different model and has managed to maintain democracy even during very troubled times and never has the army interfered even once. The fact of the matter is the next era belongs to India and China, so learn to live with it and stop crying mate

DLF into metro now. Building feeder metro services to major Metro rails . Starts with Gurgaon Metro Rail Ltd followed by Hyderabad and Chennai feeder services. Gurgaon metro will be connected to Delhi metro through a 90 mtr long walkway .

A year after floating tenders, the Haryana government gave the go-ahead to India's first entirely private Metro rail network that will connect Gurgaon to Delhi Metro's Sikanderpur station. The rail network, which involves an investment of Rs 900 crore, would be complete in 30 months from the date of award of the project. A major portion of the 6.1km elevated stretch would have a single track providing one-way movement.

The network to be called Gurgaon Metro Rail Link (GMRL) will benefit an estimated 1 lakh commuters, particularly the daily workforce. According to the design, the rail line takes off and terminates at Sikanderpur covering both residential and commercial areas of DLF-II, DLF-III and Cyber City. The approximately 1.2km stretch between Sikanderpur Metro station and DLF-II would have double tracks, while the rest would have a single track. So, a train will start from Sikanderpur station and terminate at the same after covering the entire stretch. The trains would draw power from the third rail running underneath. The GMRL would be connected to the station through a 90m-long walkway.

Originally, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) had floated a tender for a 3.2km-long Metro link between Sikanderpur and NH-8 worth Rs 500 crore. Though realty major DLF had envisaged the project in 2007 to provide connectivity to Cyber City, Haryana government had objected to the idea of a private player using public transport for profit making. DLF owns most part of Cyber City and a majority of the land on this stretch.

Now, according to the modified proposal, the 6.1km elevated corridor will have six stations Sikanderpur, DLF-II, Belvedere Tower, DLF-III, Gateway Tower touching NH-8 and Mall of India which government officials claim would serve the "real purpose of the new mode of public transport''.

All the platforms will have special screen doors and even dead-ends of the platforms would have glass screens. These doors will separate the platform from the track to prevent accidents and also permit higher arrival and departure speeds for trains. Besides, it would also increase the service frequency significantly.

The initial frequency of trains with three coaches would be three minutes and each coach would have a capacity of 300 passengers. While the average speed would be 30kmph, the maximum speed is 80kmph. The design of the train is yet to be decided, but sources said it would be a medium Metro. A standard fare of Rs 10 has been fixed for the entire stretch.

Haryana government sources said the consortium would pay Rs 765 crore to HUDA as connectivity charges over the next 35 years. It will also pay a certain percentage in the range of 5-10% of the revenue earnings from advertisement rights and property development to HUDA. The government is yet to hand over the letter of intent to the consortium.

India tops with US in solar power

The green energy revolution is not miles away from India. The country has emerged as the world’s number one, along with United States, in
annual solar power generation.

In wind power production, India ranks fifth in the world. And when it comes to space, scope and facilities for renewable energy expansion, India ranks fourth in the world.

McKinsey & Company, in its survey ended in May 2009, has stated that India has one of the world’s highest solar intensities with an annual solar energy yield of 1,700 to 1,900 kilowatt hours per kilowatt peak (kWh/KWp) of the installed capacity.

This is similar to the US and Hawaii, the two other countries which have been ranked first along with India. After India, US (mainly California state), Hawaii and Spain are the largest solar power producers with 1,500 to 1,600 kWh/KWp followed by Italy, Australia, China, Japan and Germany.

Similarly, in the BP statistical review of world energy, India has been ranked as fifth in the world. While United States contributes 20.7% of the total wind energy in the world, Germany produces 19.6%, followed by Spain (14%), India (8%), China (6%) and Denmark (3%).

According to Ernst & Young’s renewable energy country attractiveness indices, which ranks countries based on regulatory environment, fiscal support, unexploited resources, suitability to different technologies and other factors determining renewable energy growth in a country, India maintains a ranking within the top five countries in the world.

Besides solar and wind, India’s index for development of renewable energy resources in hydropower sector is the fourth topmost in the world after US, Germany and China. Similarly, the country’s development index in biomass is ranked third in the world after US and Germany. Countries like Italy, UK, France, Canada and Australia lag behind India in this world index.

“This implies enormous potential in energy generation running into several hundred Giga Watts with current solar technologies. As the cost of building solar capacity continues to fall over the next five to 10 years, a significant scale-up of solar generation (in multiples of tens of GW) is a very realistic possibility in India,’’ the McKinsey report stated.

It further reveals that India’s biomass potential could be as high as 70 Giga Watts, bagasse 5 GW and agro-waste 18 GW. Use of wasteland for growing feedstock (woody biomass) is another potential source of biomass and a programme to cultivate such crops like poplars and cottonwoods on just a quarter of country’s 80 million hectares of degraded land, it could generate 45 to 50 GW of power.

The Ernst & Young’s report stated that India’s gross renewable energy potential (up to 2032) is estimated at 220 GW.
“Clearly, with a renewable energy capacity of 14.8 GW i.e, 9.7% of the total installed generation capacities of 150 GW (as on June 30, 2009), India has barely scratched the surface of a huge opportunity. However, given that in the last couple of years itself, the share of renewable energy in installed capacity has grown from 5% to 9.7%, India is definitely looking to make up for the lost time rapidly,’’ stated the report.
