LuLu Mall

Billed as India's biggest shopping mall, the Lulu Shopping Mall was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Kochi on Sunday.

Built at a cost of over Rs.1,0600 crore, the mall is spread over 2.5 million square feet of space and is owned by EMKE group of United Arab Emirates (UAE) businessman M.A. Yousuf Ali, who hails from Kerala.f

Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, state Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, several cabinet colleagues of Chandy and other top Kerala politicians were also present at the occasion.

The mall has nine theatres, 16 pairs of escalators, elevators and travelators. There is a 3,500-seat multi-cuisine food court and parking for 3,000 cars.

In Kerala, Government funds are used up on Trivandrum city, the capital of Kerala. still, the city is alive basically because of it being the capital. While Kochin and Malabar are growing on its own. be it shopping malls or skyscrapers.

Regarding Lulu, it is perhaps the biggest mall in South Asia. some reported it is only 4th biggest mall in India. and Lulu supermarkets are pretty known in GCC countries.

Okay here it goes... The GLA Rule.

For Malls the term biggest or largest denotes space available for leasing or renting out... Its called Gross Leasable Area or GLA, which indicates the size status of malls.........

Lulu Cochin Mall has a GLA of 1.7 Million Sqft. The total structure is 2.5 Million Sqft which includes hotel, parking, amusement park etc.... Only 1.7 Million Sq Ft is Lulu's total GLA...

Previously, the largest mall of India was Phoenix Market City Mumbai with 1.32 Million Sq Ft as GLA.... Yes Phoenix Mumbai has a super-built-up area of 4.3 Million Sqft... But the actual Mall is only 1.32 Million....

High Street Phoenix's total built up area is 3.4 Million Sqft... But the Mall's GLA is only 7 Lakh sqft, just 2 lakh more than Gold souk Grande, Kochi...

Mantri Square Bangalore's GLA is just 9 lakh Sqft....

Phoenix Market City - Chennai total GLA is just 1 Million Sqft.

Which is largest, is 1.7 Million Sqft GLA of Lulu Mall or 1.32 Million Sqft of Phoenix Mumbai?

Yes, the term biggest, largest are not permanent.... But as on March 10 2013, Lulu Mall Kochi is the largest Mall of India....

^^^ Agree with you, Indian men that we were unfortunate to run into were disgusting. My wife and kids bore the brunt of the leering, ogling and photo taking. Even men going out of their way to try and touch my wife grope her etc. On a beach in Goa I noticed three guys taking photos of my wife while pretending to be doing something else. Walked up to them and asked them what they were doing they came up with some **** excuse a Aussie couple there saw what wax going on and came over and the guy said these guys were talking photos of his girlfriend 30 minutes before. Grabbed their phones and guess what photos of my wife and the other girl along with other women quite disgusting.

No wonder India has a huge problem when it comes to the treatment of women. It's quite sad actually and does not give you a good impression.

First of all let me thank you to come to our country... let me apologize the inconvenience you faced on behalf of them...Please report such kind of incident to the available police officer in future…

yup....until about 10 years ago...only Mumbai and Delhi were well known for high end luxury cars.....but nowadays
HYD, Chennai and Bangalore ( and some tier 2 cities like coimbatore , kochi and tvm ) are going through a major luxury car boom.....in any given time in a street in these cities, you will find several hotties flying past you , leaving youwanting for another drive by

Malayalis had this thing for two syllable meaningless names in the eighties and early nineties. I am glad all the Gini, gici, seni , Bini's areno longer fashionable. Lulu I guess is one of it.

Its not a meaningless word. Lulu means 'PEARL' in arabic language. Since "Padma Shri" M.A Yusuf Ali based his business in Gulf he kept that Arabic name. If he would had started his business somewhere in TN he would have named it 'Muttu' Hypermarket .

Thanks.. thats a lot better. But i do know most of the two syllable mallu names have no meaning.
