India is developing border infrastructures with Bangladesh to boost two-way trade and Indian companies are showing keen interest to invest in various segments and joint ventures in the neighbouring country, said Indo Asian News Agency (IANS) on Wednesday attributing to Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran to Dhaka.

"Not only the trade between the two countries increasing adequately, more and more Indian companies are showing keen interest to invest in various segments and joint sector ventures in Bangladesh," Saran said while visiting Akhaura India-Bangladesh check post near Agartala, capital of Tripura state in northeast India.

Bangladesh had exported goods worth $562 million to India in the last fiscal (2012-13).

"This is the highest ever volume of exports to India since creation of Bangladesh in 1971," Mr Saran told newsmen as reported by IANS.

Saran visited Agartala and Akhaura check post as a participant of an 18-member high-level Indian team led by Gouri Kumar, secretary, border management, to supervise the ongoing works of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Akhaura, two km west off the heart of Agartala city.

The Indian government is setting up 13 world class ICPs along the country's borders with Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar and Nepal to facilitate the effective and efficient discharge of sovereign functions such as security, immigration, customs, and quarantine while providing support facilities for smooth cross-border movement of people, goods and transport, said IANS.

Saran said the Indian government had given highest priority to developing various infrastructures along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border with West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram, said the private news agency.

He said Dhaka and New Delhi were also trying to simplify the travel documents including visas of various types so that the people of the two countries can travel easily and in large numbers.

For the benefit of the people on both sides of the border, Saran said the two countries have started setting up of "border haats" (markets) along the India-Bangladesh border, said IANS.

"Two border haats were set up along the Meghalaya border in 2011 on a pilot basis and these are now operational. The Meghalaya government has demanded 22 more such markets. Several such border haats would also be set up in Tripura and other bordering states.

"These would boost local trade and people-to-people contact between the two countries.

Overall, Saran said, India-Bangladesh relations are moving "in the right direction", IANS quoted Mr Saran as saying.

Infrastructure in the NE of India. Helps Bangladesh export finished goods and import raw materials. In the NE, we now eat biscuits from Bangladesh, drink fruit Juice made there and build houses with cement from Shylet. Good all around.

Yes, it should be the way you are telling. However, BD ends up buying more and more from India. However, Indian NE produces fruits in good quantity. These will certainly find market via these new border srtuctures, and India will as usual keep on putting hindrance to our exports.

For someone who lives in the US, you are remarkably incoherent. Please rewrite, this time in English.

Not really. The majority of Bangladeshis in the US speak, read, and write incoherently. :)

On topic: trade between the two countries is always a good thing.
