You also need the US for your Defence needs including the GE engines for your TEJAS LCA, Apache Helicopters, Harpoon missiles and many more items. Even your Defense Purchases from Israel have be cleared by the US because they use US Technology and components.

Well, it's not out of love that the Yanks have given us military equipment. We are paying hard $$$ for it and the Americans are laughing all the way to the bank.

Not only that, every $1 billion in arms purchases provide 50,000 jobs to Americans. So it's a win situation for them. And they know that India has enough $$$ to keep buying American toys till the cows come home.
