India defends human rights abuses in Burma

Burma Times Desk Report: July 04, 2015

The UNHRC on Friday adopted a resolution on addressing the human rights situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Burma.

The resolution could not be adopted on Thursday due to the absence of the Burmese representative.

In show of solidarity with the Burmese regime, India disassociated itself from the resolution. Instead the regional power defended the human rights situation in Burma, the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Ajit Kumar said, “we have serious concerns on the draft resolution which focuses on issues that are sectarian in nature… With respect to Rakhine State, we have noted that the Government of Myanmar has taken steps towards restoration of law and order and has expressed readiness to cooperate with UN and other humanitarian agencies regarding rehabilitation of those affected by violence.”

Those affected by violence have not been rehabilitated in more than three years and lives in refugee camps where living conditions are among the worst in the world, according to international NGOs.

Burma also said there were no human rights abuses against Muslims in their country.

The resolution urged the ‘Government of Myanmar to grant full citizenship rights, in keeping within a transparent due process, to Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State, including by reviewing the 1982 Citizenship Law’.

Its a good move. It a right step in right direction.

Good thing Indians aren't part of the UNSC, thus they make no $hit on what they have to say about international matter.

Its Myanmars "internal matter",,,just like uighur issue is Chinas internal matter...
why shud we jeopardise our relationship with a friendly country for illegals residing in Burmese teritory.
Bangladeshis, just like uighur issue,,,suck it up

Indian Hindus sympathising with Kashmiri Pundits, Pakistani Muslims sympathising with Kashmiri Muslims. But watch how they treat fellow citizens of different cast or sect in their own countries

India stands with Myanmar with which it shares a civilizational link. It follows the Buddhist religion which originated in India and is close to the Hindu way of life. India has a duty shielding for Myanmar.

Unfortunately the Burmese don't really share this view, despite the few diplomatic response you might see from Burmese members. The Indian delusion about "civilizational link" to SE Asia is similar to the Turkish delusions about "Turkic nations" (the real Turkic nations don't really reciprocate the feeling).

During the race riot in the British Raj era, the overwhelmingly hindu British Indian army protected the Rohinygas against Rakhines. That's because a race riot is simply a... "race" riot! The Burmese are a very race conscious nation - otherwise what stops them from uniting with the Buddhist Thai next door? Try visiting Arakan as your next tourist destination and see for yourself how your "civilizational buddies" treat dark skinned people like you (just don't identify as a foreigner).

They have supported the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pundits and Bangladeshi Hindus. We are returning the favor.
On topic : Its a good decision. It should have been done before.
i thought they were the ethnic cleansers

Don't post derogatory comment. Otherwise we also know a few nickname of yours.

"I-if you namecall, I-i'm going to namecall too!!!"
For God's sake, get a hold of yourself. You're living in the United States and yet continue to engage in petty third-world slum-dweller behavior. :disagree:
