India decides against reactivating Chushul airfield

Good sensible move by the GOI for avoiding unnecessary disturbance to our "most peaceful border" i just don't get it of why Indians are so worry? There was not even a single incident happened between our border guards for decades, nothing like your border with some of your other neighbors. Seems to me, some of you were actually hoping for a "war" to happen. :undecided:
In my humble opinion, "When we having the "most peaceful border" on the planet, lets keep it that way period.
Sino-Indian borders most peaceful, says Krishna - Economic Times

You can hardly think of a country which has not done "many things in the past".Chinese and Indian leaders are not willing to point their nuclear weapons at each other and thats quite sensible.

Exactly pal, we don't even had one single military conflict happened between our border for decades, there are no reasons for any in the coming future, The bottom line is the "proven fact" we having one of the "most peaceful border" on earth, why change it? :undecided:
Perhaps people need to wake up and realize that both China and India had all came a long way as being what we are today, why spoil it? :what:

There seems to be a great deal of speculation, heat, smoke and dust on this thread. And all for nothing. Chushul may have been dropped out of the plan for reactivation for strictly practical reasons, its location. It is too close to the LAC to become a worthwhile air-base. TTT may be able to testify to that. Check out the location for yourselves anyway. No worthwhile Air Commander will base major assets at a base that can be shelled by artillery pieces. However Chushul can and will operate transport aircraft like An-32s and Helicopters. As it is it, can operate An-32s, which means that C-130s can also stage out of there. Su-30 MKIs? Nada, that is what all the news actually means! Never mind the journalist-speak.

With all due respect you think this was not thought through when the plan for activating this base surfaced???? The issue is how long can we keep changing our plans just to appease china??? Nothing wrong with that if this is the approach taken from both sides...

You have'nt understood the whole story yet. And do not depend on news reports past and present to do so. Remember the hysteria that was generated when patrols from both sides were found crossing the border, coupled with the news stories about choppers flying across the border and people painting assorted rocks with graffiti?
This "activation" means different things to different people. With the IAF expansion (a good bit of which is Northern-centric) more bases in the North will be required. Of which some will be re-activated bases and some will be new green-field bases. And not every one of them will house combat elements or high value assets. That will all (obviously) depend on sound military principles. Not on journalist-speak.

Forever, apparently.

Even right after another round of stapled visas.

You guys should probably vote for BJP if you want a Government with balls.

we need to make peace with China someone of you may hate me for saying this but militarily India is no match to China we don't have the amount of money resources or technology to keep up with China, not to mention China has more influence than us we import 80% of our weaponry while China imports a good chunk but is good at reverse engineering and making local weaponry for the armed forces

this is not to say we should appease china and keep quiet over Sino-India border we just need to develop our indigenous defense industry and modernize our forces, in terms of quantity i doubt we could match china maybe we could in the future but as of right now no way.... if we can't keep up with china in numbers lets counter it with quality and good technology JV's with other countries getting defense knowledge and implementing experience for good use so we ourselves can become Swadeshi in defense needs

This decision comes at a peculiar time! There is a possibility that India is indirectly telling China to take a leaf and reverse the stapled visa policy ! Will China heed ? If it doenst India may go ahead and activate this airfield ! Just speculating !

Sir, my only question is if reactivation of this base was planned then there has to be a strategic importance, if that is so then why going back on this....If it is because of the fear/apprehensions of china's reaction then it is not acceptable unless and until China also shows same/similar restraints on her side...

Irrespective of the govt. foreign policy is mostly the same...when in opposition same party will criticize govt stand which they would have also taken had they been in the power...anyways question is not about balls but about approach, policy...

No use to explain to people who find murder of innocent civilians a thing to laugh at and look out for nuclear destruction flashing the number of warheads one has saying that they find it acceptable.

You have to understand one thing when we act sensibly its called acting without balls (sometimes i get the idea that there is some kind of genetical disease these people know of and they apply it to India. Honestly these kind of Internet warriors don't talk anything when we come face to face as it needs balls for that as they say. One can say lot of things in hiding). If a foreign leader so much as talks about asserting ourselves (which we naturally don't do) it is spoken as hegemonic designs etc etc. They are either a confused lot or have a forked tongue.

I pity these kind of people as they have no other recreation than to talk low of some thing or some one and rejoice about it. Other than this there will be no meaning to their miserable lives i guess.

China has given normal visa earlier.

However, ever since Ms Clinton asked India to be more assertive in Asia, meaning assist the US in Asia, this is a indication that China is not too pleased with what Ms Clinton has said and that India should not pay heed to her!!

At least have the guts to say who it is that you are talking about.

We need peace stability & harmony in our part of the world. Keeping peace with China should be a part of this but DEFINITELY not for the reason underlined above.

Peace is a basic pre requisite to development and progress and should be maintained as far as possible - this applies to both parties.

If you are far from the enemy, make him believe you are near

Sun Tsu

That is the essence of the Chusul airfield and the brouhaha.

As it military aircraft can land.

The aim is not to land the Dreamliner for which the runway will have to be lengthened and reinforced.

It is adequate to land C 17s. That is why India has gone in for the same.

Govt decide against activate the airfield because IAF doesnt need..... dont simply drag all your anger against congress to this issue...
