India: Dangerous heat to intensify this week after arriving unusually early

Cracking and splitting can also be caused by a fungal infection or thyroid disease, particularly hypothyroidism. Brittle nails may also be due to a deficiency in vitamins A and C or the B vitamin biotin.

You will never know the problem till you keep nibbling at the nails, once they grow you will be able to identify the problem. This is what the Doc will tell you.

In any case , what are you anxious about ? Biting nails will not solve anything.

My nails are perfectly healthy. They have grown out a few times so I know.

Its not anxiety. Its just something to do. I used to bite my nails less when I used to smoke. Now I have quit and it has increased. I do it absent mindedly. And once I get a small piece, I like to trim evenly all around it ....

Fair enough, still I suggest you meet a Doc. Your call.

Apologies for the unsolicited advice.

Not in India . He gets paid a little more than what my wife pays the maids & washerman.

I used the word ' even' to highlight the fact that all strata of society in India ( both rural & urban ) seek & have a much higher standard of living as compared to even 5 years ago. Which is good.
Is having servants a proud thing in your country? Here one needs $1000 per month at least, and they fire their employers instead of being fired. If people want to have a helper at home, it is the beginning of nightmares.

In a cruelly ruthless hierarchical structure like the caste system in India, having someone beneath you to whip is considered a sign of being further up that food chain.

Its a cultural thing. We have 5 (not counting the gardener, car washer, and watchman). It provides employment. And makes our lives easier. We don't call them servants. They are called "bais" which is Hindi for maid.

I'd like to have someone wash clothes for me, but I will be frowned upon by my peers.

We call them domestic helpers.
The most expensive ones are those 50-60 year old aunties who are hired to care for newborn.
Just one month, they would earn $2000 at least.....

We have those as well. We call them maalish waalis. They come home and give specialist oil massage to the new born. A very technical thing, not to be trusted to anyone. The one who was mine was then convinced to stay on full time and now she is old and hardly does anything but just comes everyday and sits and eats paan. Has a nice long siesta in the afternoon. Bosses around the other maids. And gets paid for it of course. LOL

Fact: Having servants ( help is a better name actually) in India has nothing to do with pride. Its a practical necessity & since help is available one employs them. On a good day it takes me an hour to get to work & an hour & a half to get back. Having a driver frees me to do so much more. I can start work as soon as I get into the car & snooze off / hear news or music / speak to my son ( who incidentally pays for the education of one child each of the driver & maid)or friends on the way home. The drivers costs me about $300 pm + 100 % bonus twice a year - Diwali & Holi). A similar amount I think is what the lady of the house pays for two maids & a washerman.

In India, its not a nightmare so long as you treat them as a member of the house which they are actually.

Fiction & imagination : Read post below

It's merely value for money.

My car driver earned more than me through Uber, about 15000 yuan a month, and still washed my car for peanuts every month. And his mother worked as a maid at my house, pretty weird eh?

The Indian govt allows unlimited internal immigration. So you will always find people willing to work in the cities, no matter what, for any price.

OP

Pls correct the title. This climatic phenomenon is regional.
