NEPAL: MAOISTS-RAW NEXUS EXPOSED, REPORT

The suspense over the Nepal Maoists unwarranted crossing over of the Nepali territory towards the Indian city of Siliguri, West Bengal in India the other day has been unveiled, say reports.

The Maoists team that had arrived in the city of Siliguri met a high ranking delegation of India’s notorious intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing), writes Madhav Basnet in the Dristi Vernacular Weekly, dated July 31, 2007.

The RAW team was led by T. Hermis- supposedly leading RAW at the moment, reveals the Dristi weekly further. Mr. Hermis was a RAW man in Kathmandu as well for over three years in the Indian embassy.

The crème de la crème of the Maoists leadership crossing over the Nepali territory to meet the RAW top-agents comprised of none other than the Supreme Commander Prachanda, deputy in command Baburam Bhattarai, leader Ram Karki and Nepalese expatriate leader of the Maoists Hari Bhakta Kandel alias Pratik.

The Maoists’ leaders had crossed the Nepali territory on July 27, 07 at around 6:00 PM and arrived in Nepal the next morning staying in the alien land for over 12 hours.

On the occasion, Drishti reports further, the Indian Intelligence agents had advised the Maoists leadership to create favorable atmosphere for the CA polls and not to spread ideas of quitting the government in Nepal.

A tacit agreement was made during the meet between the two sides that the Maoists will now on stop playing the China card and in return India will try to help the Maoists duo retain their endangered position due to the growing influence of nationalists segment within the party, writes Basnet further.

Immediately after landing in the Nepali territory, the Maoists duo Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai while meeting the press were reported as saying that they were against the idea of quitting the government.

India, Nepal blame each other for worst flooding in decades

India and Nepal blamed each other Monday for some of the worst flooding in South Asia in decades, which has affected 25 million people and left rescuers scrambling to help victims.

Officials in Bihar, the Indian state worst affected by the inundation, said neighbouring Nepal had failed to build dams to control water surging down from the Himalayas.

But Nepal hit back immediately, claiming that Indian dams were to blame for the flooding in Nepal.

"We can't do anything about the amount of water coming from Nepal," said Purna Kumari Subedi, the member of parliament for Nepal's Banke district, which borders Bihar.

"The same thing happened last year. Because of the dam constructed at Laxmanpur on the Indian side, a lot more land on the Nepali side was extremely flooded, affecting thousands of people," said Subedi.

The dam was against Nepal's interests and should be destroyed, she said.

Nepal's foreign ministry said India could have helped to alleviate the flooding upstream in the Himalayan kingdom.

"Some of the Terai plains areas bordering India were flooded because dams on the Indian side were kept closed," said Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Nepal's foreign ministry spokesman.

"We have not been able to sit for talks with our Indian counterparts about this as we are both busy dealing with the flooding," he said.

Torrential monsoon rains triggered flooding and landslides that have killed at least 93 people and affected around 270,000 in Nepal.

But flooding described as the worst in 30 years has affected 11.5 million people in Bihar.

If it is on the Indian side and downstream, how can Nepal destroy it? By attacking India in a war? I haven't understood the logic.

Yeah. The whole of India and Nepal will start hating each other over one dam. That is ridiculous.
Our diplomatic relationship isn't like that.

Countries don't "hate" each other over minor issues.

As I said, India-Nepal relationship goes deeper than minor issues. We have open borders. Need I say more?
