On May 13 The Indian Council for Defence Procurement approved the agreement for the purchase of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia.

"The signing of the contract could take place at the end of 2016, and we are talking about the purchase of the five regiments of the S-400 two-division composition and, and six thousand missiles totaling about $6 billion," - said a TASS news agency source, close to the Ministry of Defence of India.

According to the "Izvestia" military expert Dmitry Safonov, the Russian Defence Ministry first plans to supply 16 ZRK S-400 regiments to the Russian army, and only then proceed to export. "By the end of 2016, the Russian armed forces will get the final five S-400 regiments, and Moscow will start full-scale work to export this system", - said the expert.

Safonov stressed that China is the first in line for the supply of anti-aircraft missile systems. "Russia and China have warm and friendly relations and, by way of exception, the first set of S-400 machines will be sent to our partner as early as 2016", - the expert added.

The contract for the supply of six battalions (one battalion has eight ZRK S-400 launchers, plus support machines – ed.) of the advanced anti-aircraft missile systems to China is estimated at $3 billion.

Safonov said that one S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems regiment can have up to 300 machines and consist of two or three divisions depending on the location of the dislocation and the Ministry of Defence decisions. "They do not only start charge transport-combat units. The complex also includes radar systems, command vehicles, and many others", - the expert added.

The S-400 "Triumph" is an advanced multi-channel long range anti-aircraft missile complex. The system is designed to protect ground targets at a distance of up to 400 kilometers from the aircraft, potential enemy’s cruise and ballistic missiles. The complex was adopted by the Russian Federation in 2007.

Each S400 launcher has 4 ready to fire missiles.

A battalion of S400 has 4 launchers each.

A regiment of S400 has 3 battalions each.

China has ordered 6 Battalions = 24 launchers for $ 3 Billion.

India plans to order 5 regiments of S400 = 15 battalions or 60 launchers with 6000 missiles for $ 6 Billion.

India is getting a better deal than China, if $6 Billion is the final price for Indian deal.

Judging from the way India conducts its military procurement business, it will not happen in time indicated.

Not the Case With Russia Also this Procurement Is Strategic National Security Issue

Indian Council for Defence Procurement or DAC Under Ministry of Defense already Approved Funds for this Deal Back in DEC 2015

Also,
India’s Reliance Defense announced that it has entered into a manufacturing and maintenance partnership with Russian Almaz-Antey, manufacturer of the S-400 air defense missile system.

The agreement will focus on radars and automated control systems as areas of partnership for the air defense missile systems, S-400 as well as offset policies of the Indian Ministry of Defense, Reliance said in a statement Thursday.

Working with Reliance Defence will help us develop new directions for both Companies to address future requirements of the Indian Armed Forces," Vice-Chairman of AlmazAntey V F Medovnikov said.

Considering post history of Indian procurements, it will take time for any such deals to materialize.

Indian Army will be soon declaring the results of field trials of SR SAM project. It has SPYDER SR, TOR M2KM and RBS23 competing.

I am expecting that by year end we will sign for a combined package of Tor , Pantsir and S400 systems.

Not Case With Russia And Its Not Any Just Procurement But Strategic One

Like I Said DAC Cleared Funds For this Deal Last year

Reliance Already Signed Into agreement with Almaz-Antey, manufacturer of the S-400 air defense missile system.
Mentioned in My previous Post

I think a huge country like India should never try out tenders again like MMRCA. Send out RFI, test each and every test system and select the best one on government to government basis. Tenders are taking a lot of time

I just hope for the MMRCA to be finalized , lets talk about the s400 later.

Only radars, not the full system.

Nope, it is the full system and not one but 6.
"As a stop-gap measure, India procured six-batteries of the highly effective Russian S-300 air defence systems to protect major cities, including New Delhi."

http://www.dawn.com/news/1258707/wh...dias-newly-launched-ballistic-missile-defence

" It bought S-300 anti-missile platforms from Russia, developed long-range, phased array radars in collaboration with Israel and built guidance radars with French assistance."
http://thediplomat.com/2013/08/indias-missile-defense-is-the-game-worth-the-candle/

New Delhi officials have said a draft agreement would soon be made on the buying of six or seven air defence systems to build more systems under license by India's state-run ordnance factories.

The Russian S-300 systems, each one deploying 48 missiles, are supposed to be an improved version of the US Patriot missile system deployed during the 1992 Gulf War to destroy Iraqi Scud missiles.

Russian experts say that unlike the Patriot, the S-300 will destroy the warhead as well as the missile and would be equally effective against aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.

You mean yet another decade long test and trisld and then reducing the qty by 68% in the end due to financial constraint's.
Na kar yaar. We already have 1000 + threads on mmrca. No more on S400.
