India concerned over military gap with China

what does india have that china does not?

Brahmos

Economy does not necessarily translate into military prowess.

Yes it does.

The British empire was by far the largest economy of the 19th century.

The United States was and is by far the world's largest economy since the beginning of the 20th century.

Both of these countries fostered significant economical edge over their adversaries (France and Germany). The military took care of its self later on.

Nuke is diffirent, we will got UN sanction if trying to have it, jet engine and walking on the Moon are free to do, but CHina just can not make it.

You are trying to compare what one does with technology to technology itself. China is about late 80's US militarily if not closer by Army and maybe airforce. Navy is a bit behind but catching up.

btw: we defeated US even when she could walked on the Moon, but CHina still can not take Taiwan back from US's hand :P

You defeated US? Or did they just walked away? At what price? You did it completely on your own or with help? More like you defeated your southern brothers.

Taiwan is not in US hands, neither is China in a hurry. Peaceful reunification is the key.

Nuke is not different. China was not sanctioned by the UN. Why would Vietnam be...? Is it because no country is afraid of sanctioning small little Vietnam?

"take Taiwan back" Does that mean you believe Taiwan is Chinese?

Do you define 3 million Vietnam deaths vs 58 thousand American deaths as victory? If so, you still cannot take the Hoàng Sa Islands from China.

I think the Chinese will walk on the Moon before Vietnam can build its own jet engine.

We slapped the UN in the face in Korea and killed/made missing 1 million UN (South Korean) soldiers and 50,000 US soldiers. And despite this we sit on the UNSC as a permanent member.

Why are you scared of the UN then?

LOL that some people think that China is "at US's 1970's tech level". Do they have any idea of what technology was like in the 1970's? What does India have that's even China's 1970's level?

Nuclear subs? China: 1971 sea trials, India: 2011 no sea trials. Guess India must be USA's 1930's level

ICBMs? China: 10,000 km range ICBM in 1985. India: 10000km+ ICBMs nowhere to be seen. Guess India is in China's 80's level.

We have to admit, they did down 3000 US fixed wing planes and 5000 helicopters. Thats a hell of alot of planes - almost the size of the current USAF fighter fleet. They did however get weapons from other countries. Vietnam alone, would've been colonized and enslaved by the US without China and Russia's help.

1. You slap them during Korean war ??oh come on , Korea still seperate, Nothing change till now, and I heard some CHinese here said : CHina's radar got jammed by US during 80s right ??poor you, we resisted their jammer in 1972 already.

2. US had Nuclear subs in 50s already
USS Nautilus (SSN-571) is the world's first operational nuclear-powered submarine. In 1958, she became the first vessel to complete a submerged transit across the North Pole. The first ship to dive under the polar ice cap,

Convair X-12/SM-65B Atlas

The Convair X-12 was the second, more advanced testbed for the Atlas rocket program. It was designed with 3 engines, its predecessor the X-11 used only one engine. It was powered by a 1.5 stage liquid-fuel rocket. Its first flight was in July 1958. The X-12 pioneered the use of 1.5 stage rocket engines that became a hallmark of the Atlas rocket program. It was also the first rocket to achieve a flight distance that could be considered intercontinental when it flew 6,325 miles ](10,179 km).

1. CHina is big, they are one of 5 pernament in UNSC also, they have many right to do it, we're just small like Korea or Iran , we have no right to do.

2. Oh, so you means Taiwan is not CHina's islands ??

3.US had better tech, better weapons, so they killed more VNese , but finally their B-52 got shot down so much , they had nothing better to air strike VN, they're defeated and had to retreat to avoid more casualties .We can not take back HoangSa bcz those island are too small to defend, but CHina also can not drill oil around there, that's good already

4. Until CHina can walk on the Moon, she still stay in 50-60 s :P

Britain, Norway, France, Germany, Japan, etc also never walked on the moon, so does that mean all those countries are 50 years behind US?

Sure, that why they only can bully some poor old man like Mr. Saddam or Mr. Gadaffi , and refused to help Thailand when they're beaten by VN :P

We need to keep in mind that, regardless of the propaganda, the Chinese are actively denied critical technologies that are available to India. Also, if our government/army spokesmen are to be believed, several tie-ups and deals have already been made by India under the radar and away from the media scanner.

Ultimately, China is a state facing sanctions and associated restrictions. Even with an increased spending, it would still take them a decade or two to gain parity with the United states technology of the 70's.

As for the statement by military chiefs, its a well known fact that militarily all over the world blow out of proportion the threats posed by its rival. I am not denying the article. My intention with this post was simply to suggest that Indians ought to take this news with a little bit of salt.

Can't say I agree with that part, its true that the China does not have critical technologies which are sold to India in full but China has been massing the production know how since the 80's. For example to leapfrog the race in Rare Earth Technology China bought a US company in in the 80's or 90's and shifted the entire company and its know how back to China and a lot of these information would have at some point supported the defense industry.

So though India is buying majority of its critical defense equipment it will mean that supply lines of the spare parts and alike for them will be detrimental to India's success. Hypothetically if it were an India vs China solely there is a good chance India can support herself as long as supply lines remain open. If the supply lines got blocked for even a week I think it could be extremely severe for India.

Anyway considering China ability to mass manufacture almost anything if the CPC decides to turn the country into a War factory it would spell major trouble for anyone on the receiving end.

On the topic:

Yes, India is concerned??? so what??? Is'nt China??? Why amassing firepower in Tibet and arming Pakistan???
