India has claimed that Pakistan continues to provide safe haven to suspected terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, who India has accused of being involved in 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, reported IANS on Tuesday.
Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, addressing the Interpol general assembly in Rome, said that red corner notices against Ibrahim were still pending.
According to the report, the minister drew a parallel between the 1993 bomb blasts and the 2008 terror strike in Mumbai, and noted that along with the 9/11 mayhem in the US, these attacks underscored the inter-state nature of planning by terrorists and the need for increased global cooperation among intelligence and investigation agencies.
The minister also pointed out that terrorism, by its method and content, rejected democratic and peaceful means of engagement.
It attacks pluralism and multi-culturalism. Thus for a liberal, democratic and diverse society and country like India, terrorism and terrorist groups pose a challenge, which have to be countered and effectively defeated, Shinde was quoted as saying.
