Beijing has reached out to Dhaka by offering to waive off 97% tariff on 5,161 items that Bangladesh trades with China.Dhaka had asked for the waiver from China for being a “less developed country”, and Beijing responded favourably on June 16, ironically a day after the Ladakh clash. Indo-Bangla ties, though, had taken a setback last year over India’s National Register Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act, both of which generated some unpleasantness in Dhaka.

What is this garbage now? o_O

China already "wooed" BD to it's camp for awhile now. Were these sanghis sleeping all through it?

Though the matter of tarrif free access comes in an interesting time. BD & China were negotiating it for a couple of years now. All the nooks & crannies weren't ironed out but China just extended the facility on zero condition from their part. Very helpful gesture from our Chinese partners.

Whatever the case...I'd say BD should go for it. In this selfish world it basically comes down to each country for itself. If this conflict allows BD to milk the situation...don't waste the opportunity.

You are right on the eye.

Bangladesh can use every bit of business & economic chance thrown to it. Improving economic condition of it's poor citizens isn't something BD can ignore anymore.

You are right, economic development is the priority for all of us. The global economy is not a zero-sum game, in this inter-connected world we can (and should) all be growing together.

We have no moral compulsion to support India against China for any reason. Specially for a country which is ready to throw Bangladesh under the bus by enacting CAA, NRC. India is a country even did not honor Sheikh Hasina's unconditional love and friendship towards them. They are ready to put Sheikh Hasina into a difficult and embarrassing position for their petty interests. It is India's good fortune of having a real friend Sheikh Hasina to lead Bangladesh, which they do not deserve. BJP govt. even did not show diplomatic courtesy to properly welcome her when she visited India twice last year.
https://www.telegraphindia.com/opinion/cold-shoulder-to-hasina/cid/1726277

Not only that, this is a country depriving Bangladesh the just share of river water, every other day killing Bangladesh citizens in the border. taking unfair trade advantage. Taking unfair advantage of Sheikh Hasina govt.'s exceptional generosity from security co-operation to transit agreements. Co-operation of her allowed India to stabilize North eastern part of their country for the first time since independence and allowed India to cut back deployed military personnel there and huge costs. Sheikh Hasina's govt. fulfilled every Indian desire of connectivity and transit through Bangladesh with a token charge for which they can now dream of a prosperous North East. Still India managed to dishonor her. Then why should any Bangladeshi take into consideration of India's sensitivity into formulating relation with other countries?

Bharat should abandon the fantasy of arm-twisting Bangladesh into cowering their line which they use to do in case of Bhutan or Nepal. Bangladesh is not Bhutan, not even Nepal which is giving middle finger to them recently. India need Bangladesh more than Bangladesh need India. They should understand it.

Bangladesh have not shown any will to arm themselves. A stronger military gives a country many options. Now Bangladesh can neither say not to india or safeguard itself against india if it makes a move perceived to be anti indian.

Such a shame! Bengalis aren't arming themselves to bankruptcy!:frown:

Such a shame, Bengalis prefers eating real food not grass, in expense of buying more weapons & fancy missiles!!

Stupid Bengalis! :disagree:

We are buying what we can afford. The pace of procurement has gone up many folds in the last 10 years or so.

Who says we cannot say no to India? Please research more on BD-India relations.
You do not need to go to war all the time to deal with India effectively.
