Indian Ocean Region is India's backyard. I don't think India will tolerate Chinese presence in this region as China will tolerate India's presence in SCS.

As regarding the importance, we Indians have always underestimated ourselves. So why not know our worth after all every 6th person on this earth is an Indian.

And regarding Pakistan, you are using it as a proxy. Nothing more and nothing less. Leave China aside, even US cannot counter continent sized country like India, and China is nothing before US, and you know this.
