Kashmir was Never Islamic Nor is Pakistan We have to Except that Our Abrahamic Faith born in Middle east.
Coming from catholic christian Myself
Faith Don't Defines Land but culture
Turkey And Afganistan are both Islamic nations but they are culturally different
So are Arabs And Kazakhstan
Islam has been present in Kashmir for over a millenia. 97% of Kashmiri's today are Muslims. Religion does define a land, as it defines a culture too. What our ancestors were nearly 1000 years ago has been irrelevant to us for nearly 1000 years. Islam has changed our diet, our dress, our language, established new traditions, forbidden older ones. Islam in the greater South Asian region has even defined the lives of Non Muslims and non Muslim culture.
I'll give you an example. Look at how sexually explicit the carvings on Hindu temples are. Try re-creating that in India today. You'll be charged with indencency. It's the long term effect of Islamic standards of modesty and more recently the frigidness of the Victorian British sense of values.
Culture is flexible, but in Muslim culture ultimately Islam defines it's boundaries. Even today in our weddings we have some strange customs which we trace back to our previous culture - but often the only ones of those which remain are those which are compatible with Islamic values and laws.
