firstly Obama is also for opening up the embargo - so his govt wont say or do anything. secondly, the republicans are in love with India and they won't say shzit. thirdly- this not like vietnam issue- India is being vocal BUT not placing herself there. lastly- american people as a majority are also either " have no opinion" or are " okay with lifting it ". It's a good issue better than supporting Ghadhafi and syria.

Shouldering responsibilities is fine if your nation is not getting ravaged, not surrounded by unstable enemies, scourge of separatism, issues with resources and blatant corruption etc.

Our interest in Vietnamese waters stems from two facts:

1- Chinese meddling in our areas of interest.
2- The awakening prospects of resources and trade with other countries from above point.

Global politics is all about perception management.The totality of the number of oppositions that India solely raised is going to hurt the American eye sooner or later.All this to a potential future ally like you detailed in a separate thread?It's playing with fire if you ask me.

Quite predictably NATO tamed Ghadhafi's forces and TNC announced hostile policies to every nation that opposed the revolution which includes India for unnecessarily running her mouth.China can afford it quite simply because of it's global position,can we afford to do the same too?

My bad. Couldn't get the perspective of your lines. The reason why I included governance in my earlier statement is that many of my family members serve in different units of forces including MARCOs, Gathak unit, Army Paracommandos and the Army's SF-21 unit (stationed here in NE).

But smart thinking is Cuba statement - where they fully know that american people and its president are also for removal of embargo. where Us allies trade with Cuba. This is pretty much true, the cold war is over. There is no need to continue a needless embargo that probably has done more to help Castro stay in power more than hurt.

True. Currently trade with the EU, Canada, and the Latin American countries generate just enough to keep the Castros in power. Add American trade and tourism to the mix and it will be the tipping point real quick for their downfall. The US should get rid of the embargo. Puerto Rico is our 51st state, Canada is 52nd, Mexico is 53rd, then Cuba will be 54th.
